🔬🌱 Cell-ebrating Creativity in 7th Grade Science! 🧫✨

Miss Emers’ and Mr. Ponzio’s 7th Grade Science students have been putting their creativity and critical-thinking skills to work while learning about plant and animal cells! 🌿🐾

To prepare for their upcoming assessment, students created detailed blueprints, keys, and descriptions of cell models, using different foods to represent cell parts and organelles! 🍕🍇🥦

By making creative connections between everyday foods and the functions of cell structures, students strengthened their understanding of how cells work while practicing higher-level thinking skills. 🧠💡

Who knew learning about cells could be so deliciously creative?! 🧡🤎

🔬🦠 A Closer Look at Life Science! 🔬✨

West’s 7th Grade Life Science students have been exploring a whole new world through the lens of a compound light microscope! 👀🔍

From bird feathers 🪶 to live protists found in pond water 💧, students examined a variety of fascinating specimens while learning how to properly use microscopes.

Students practiced adjusting magnification from low to medium to high power, carefully observing and drawing what they discovered at the microscopic level! ✏️🔬

They then put their new skills to the test during a hands-on microscope assessment, identifying characteristics of living organisms.

Who knew there was so much to discover in the tiniest details?! 🦠🌎

📚✨ A Special Visit from Author Laurie Morrison! ✨📚

Last week, Middle School West was excited to welcome author Laurie Morrison, author of Where Ella Went, for a special school-wide assembly! 📖💫

Laurie shared her writing journey with students, including the many rejections she experienced along the way and how those challenges helped lead her toward success. Her message was a great reminder that perseverance and believing in your work can make all the difference! ✍️💪

After the assembly, Laurie hosted a special writers’ workshop, focusing on the question: How can writers slow down time in key moments? Students had the opportunity to explore techniques for making important moments in their writing more vivid and meaningful. 📝✨

Laurie also spent time signing copies of Where Ella Went for our students! 📚❤️

📖 Interested in reading Where Ella Went? We still have 6 signed copies available in the West Library for $18.99 each.
