Today, Monday 6th June, 2022, a public holiday, thirty students from the Stephanie Browne Primary School, the Mary Hutchinson Primary School and, the Union Island Secondary School went on an educational tour to two of Union Island's Forts; Fort Rapid that overlooks Chatham Bay and Fort Irene that overlooks Ashton Bay.
The students, accompanied by four teachers from all the three schools, totally enjoyed themselves. They learnt of the early history of Union Island and the reasons for the building of the Forts by the British settlers.
Union Island also has a third Fort: Fort Murray located on the eastern end of the Island and overlooks the Clifton Harbour.
Today's event was organised by the Union Island Museum & Ecological Society.
