🌱🥜 Peanut Yield Evaluation and Distribution Ceremony Supports Sustainable Agriculture 🥜🌱
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation, in partnership with the International Trade Centre (ITC), hosted a Peanut Yield Evaluation and Distribution Ceremony on Monday, June 22, 2026, bringing together farmers from across St. Vincent and the Grenadines in support of a sustainable and thriving peanut industry.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural value chains, improve food and nutrition security, and create new economic opportunities for farmers through increased peanut production.
Addressing participants, Rohan McDonald, Agricultural Diversification Officer, highlighted the benefits of peanut cultivation, noting that the crop matures within 120 to 150 days, allowing farmers to earn a relatively quick return on their investment. He also emphasized that strong consumer demand for peanuts throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines makes the crop a reliable source of income.
In his remarks, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Transformation, Hon. Israel Bruce, underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing agricultural development.
He recognized the valuable contributions of the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), and the European Union (EU), noting that collaboration among stakeholders is essential for building a stronger, more resilient agricultural sector.
The ceremony reflects the Government's continued commitment to agricultural diversification, value-chain development, and enhancing the resilience and competitiveness of agriculture in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
