VING Military Spouse Appreciation Day Recognition!
Today, we proudly honor Military Spouse Appreciation Day, a truly uplifting occasion to pause, reflect, and celebrate the extraordinary military spouses around us who profoundly enrich our lives and our military communities.
A heartwarming love story entitled "In Love and Service" describes the remarkable journey of SFC Kareem and SSG Delicia Henley, nominated and selected as the VING 2025 Military Spouse Appreciation Day Couple.
Kareem and Delicia discovered their love during their mobilization to Afghanistan in 2003. Sharing the same interests in and out of uniform made them an instant love match from the very beginning. Wedding bells rang five years later, and they were separated a month after exchanging vows due to Delicia’s deployment to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Kareem understood his role and got the assignment correct by visiting Delicia on their 1st wedding anniversary and during that time assisted, coached, and provided moral support to the love of his life during her PT test.
They worked side by side as a couple, maintaining professionalism in uniform. This past year, they both deployed to Africa and were separated for several months. Kareem, again, made time to visit his soulmate on their anniversary. Kareem and Delicia agree that communication, laughter, and hard work are the driving forces that kept their marriage intact all these years.
In their words, "It is not luck, but by God’s love and grace that their bond has endured and grown even stronger through individual training, joint training, and military deployment. Any disagreements were dealt with at home. Through it all, they both appreciate having the most trustworthy battle buddy by their side, "each other".
The Henley’s leave you with this personal quote, "For them, Marriage and Mission are inseparable, and one does not come before the other while In Love and Service."
What a beautiful love story! The VING State Family Program Team congratulates the Henley’s for being the VING 2025 Military Spouse Appreciation Day Couple of the year.
