HE. Ambassador Timor-Leste to Viet Nam, Mr. João Pereira, was invited to attend the International Press Conference on the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 (AFF 2026) to take place in Hanoi during 9-10 June 2026 at the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam (DAV).

The AFF 2026 will be participated by the Government of Timor-Leste in which HE. Prime Minister Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão will deliver a Keynote Address.

The participation of Timor-Leste in the AFF2026 is a commitment as a new Member State of ASEAN yo contribute to this regional organization to the geopolitical, geostrategic policy and strategies of the ASEAN vision 2045 amid the ongoing world crises and regional challenges.

H.E. Ambassador Timor-Leste to Viet Nam, Mr. João Pereira, and the ASEAN Ambassador to Viet Nam, had lunch together on 22 May 2026 hosted by H.E. Ambassador of Australia to Viet Nam, Ms. Gillian Clarck, at her residence in Hanoi.

On Wednesday, 27 May 2026, H.E Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Viet Nam, Mr. João Pereira was interviewed by the National Media of Timor-Leste "TATOLI" on the bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Viet Nam on the occasion of the Official Visit of H.E. Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to Viet Nam and to participate in the ASEAN Future Forum 2026 in Hanoi, Viet Nam during 7-10 June, 2026.
The Ambassador highlighted the strong Diplomatic Relations between the two countries since Timor-Leste Restoration Independence and Viet Nam continued support of Timor-Leste's asecction to ASEAN and the future potential area of cooperation between the two countries.
The Ambassador also underlined the commitment of Timor-Leste to be an active member of ASEAN including its active contribution in the ASEAN Forum such as the ASEAN Future Forum of with has become a high level Forum of organizations in bringing together the ASEAN Leaders to provide perspective to address challenges and future direction of ASEAN.

Today 20 May 2026, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL) commemorates the 24th Anniversary of the Restoration of Independence, 20 May 2002 - 20 May 2026.

It is commemoration of 24 years RDTL restore its independence proclaimed on 28 November 1975 after under Indonesian occupation, 1976-1999, followed by the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) 1999-2002 to support the Referendum on 30 August 1999 and the establishment of State Building and Nation Building of this first country of the second millennium.

Today Timor-Leste is proud of being 24 years sovereign country, 11th ASEAN Member State Country, Member of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Initiator of g7+ countries, Member of WTO and Established State Diplomatic Missions in the Globe including 31 Embassies and Permanent Representatives and 5 Consuls of Diplomatic and Bilateral Cooperations in friend countries, primarily in all the ASEAN countries including with the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

Timor-Leste is progressing with its development in all sectors, despite the challenges as a new country with high economis dependency on the Oil and Gas Revenue while diversifying our economy in various sectors.

H.E. Ambassador Timor-Leste to Viet Nam, Mr. João Pereira was invited by H.E. Ambassador of Norway to Viet Nam, Ms. Hilde Sotbakken and Spouse Mr. Adrian Stuart to participate in a Traditional Breakfast at Hotel Moven Pick-Hanoi on 15 May 2026 to celebrate the 212th Anniversary of Norwegian Constitutional Day.
In her remark H.E. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Viet Nam, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, and H.E. Ambassador Hilde underscore the strong bond of Diplomatic Relations and Bilateral Cooperations between Norway and Viet Nam primarily during the 4 years mandate of Ambassador Hilde in Viet Nam.

H.E Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) Timor-Leste, Mr. Rogério de Araujo Mendonça, accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Timor-Leste to Viet Nam, Mr. João Pereira, and the Delegation, were welcomed by H.E. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Mr. Nguyen Manh Khuong at the Ministry on 14 May 2026 to discuss the interest of the Industrial Enterprisers in Bac Ninh Province to deploy Timorese to be trained and working in Bac Ninh Province Industries of Viet Nam.

This meeting is part of a series meetings with National Ministries of Viet Nam, the Leaders of Bac Ninh Province of Viet Nam and the visits to Industries in Bac Ninh Province of the Agenda of the Visit of H.E Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) to Viet Nam during 10-15 May 2026.
