Information about the project :
The aim of Project: “Up-scaling of pro-poor rattan/bamboo value chain development for women and ethnic minorities in Nghe An province” in period 2013-2015 is to involve in the particular progress of poverty in selected areas which have limited income, poor approaching and accessing to the market, small-scale production, lack of market information affecting the resilience, discrimination against women and ethnic minorities, poor leadership capacity of local governments, developed for the poverty is limited and forest degradation. Intervention measures based on successful approaches and partnership have been developed before starting this project.These measures includes: (1) Promoting sustainable production of raw materials based on the community (from nursery to planting); (2) Enhancing capacity of harvesting, processing, production and sales (diversification of production methods using resources efficiently); (3) Analysing the value chain and constructing market information system to monitor and adjust to market trends; (4) Promoting supported policies through poverty alleviation programs (such as Decision 11); (5) Promoting business investment in development based on agreements with the people; (6) Building the capacity of civil society organizations. The interventions will be made through activities such as awareness raising and capacity building (of beneficiaries and government agencies); the detailed evaluation and analysis of specific feasible business (especially for setting the trade nurseries and investment in craft processing/manufacturing); community mobilization for collective actions (eg formation of interest groups); the market assessment and creation of a favorable market linkages (developing contracts); capacity building for design/production scale; technical assistance; specific inputs provision; public-private dialogue and partnerships; networks affiliation; sharing and learning. Moreover, during the first year, preliminary work will be completed to establish a market information system (MIS). In coordination with private retail company (UMA) and other commercial companies, an assessment of the development of programs will be set out based on the production of handicrafts (both at provincial and district level, depending on the results of the evaluation)
