The Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics was pleased to participate in the 𝗧𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗖𝗧 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, held under the theme:

“𝙀𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝘾𝙏.”

This special event brought together government departments, organizations, businesses, students, and community stakeholders to showcase services, programs, products, and opportunities that can benefit students and the wider public.

As part of the Department of Statistics’ participation, we had the opportunity to engage with students, share information about official statistics, and explain how data supports better planning, decision-making, and community development in Vanuatu.

It was encouraging to see students showing interest, asking questions, and learning more about the important role of statistics in education, government services, business, and everyday life.

Today, the Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics (VBoS) is highlighting how official statistics help us better understand the lives of consumers and households across Vanuatu.

Using data from the Household Income & Expenditure Survey (HIES), statistics help reveal:

Market activity remained strong in the December quarter, with increased supply and steady price movements across key produce categories.

📈 Key Highlights:
🔹 +23% increase in market supply volume
🔹 +2% increase in overall prices
🔹 VT1.43M total value of commodities
🔹 271 active vendors at the market

🌿 Produce Performance:
🍠 Staples: +41% volume, -14% price
🍍 Fruits: +73% volume, +5% price
🥬 Vegetables: -17% volume, +7% price

🥧 Market Value Share:
Staples 46% | Fruits 31% | Vegetables 23%

📌 Market growth was driven by higher supply of staples and fruits, while vegetable supply declined due to seasonal factors.

International Visitor Arrivals – January 2026

Vanuatu recorded a total of 45,679 international visitors in January 2026, with 79% arriving by sea and 21% by air.

🏝️ Holiday travel remains dominant, accounting for 77% of air arrivals, with Australia continuing as the leading source market (63%).

📅 Visitors stayed an average of 10 days, with an average age of 36 years.

Vanuatu recorded a total of 31,552 international visitors in December 2025, with 74% arriving by sea and 26% by air.

🏝️ Holiday travel remains strong, accounting for 85% of air arrivals, with Australia leading as the main source market.

📅 Visitors stayed an average of 11 days, with an average age of 36 years.
