Foreshore Development in Sanma Province, Vanuatu 🇻🇺

From the mean high water mark to the fringing reef, our coastlines play a vital role in connecting communities and supporting livelihoods.

Recently, the Foreshore Team, together with the Sanma Provincial Government, carried out site inspections in Santo for proposed some propose development areas where jetties and small wharfs will be constructed around Santo and Malo Island. This initiative is part of the Sanma Provincial Government’s vision to improve sea access as an essential service for communities across the province.

These developments are more than just infrastructure they are pathways to opportunity. By improving coastal access, the project will:

1. Strengthen connectivity between remote and urban areas
2. Support trade and economic exchange
3. Provide safer and more reliable transport for people and goods

This is a step forward in building resilient coastal communities and ensuring that no area is left behind when it comes to access and development.

Remember that for any foreshore development, ministerial consent must be obtained prior to the commencement of any works. This ensures that the Foreshore Development Unit can properly assess and monitor proposed activities to prevent environmental damage and promote sustainable use of coastal areas.
