๐ A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Tourism Industry Partners ๐
The Department of Tourism would like to sincerely thank Ms. Mary Jane, Owner of Hotel Santo, and Ms. Vashti Morin, General Manager of Breakas Beach Resort, for their generous support towards preparations for the upcoming Public Service Commission Day 2026 in TORBA Province.
As part of preparations for this important national event, the Department of Tourism conducted accommodation assessments on Motalava and Rah Islands, engaging with more than 100 host families who have volunteered to accommodate government officials and other visitors expected to attend the celebrations.
The assessments identified a need for additional mattresses, bed linens, pillows, towels and other accommodation materials to help families prepare their homes and provide a comfortable experience for guests.
We are therefore deeply grateful to Hotel Santo and Breakas Beach Resort for stepping forward and donating quality used linens to support this initiative.
These donations will directly assist families in Rah and Motalava islands, improve accommodation readiness and leave a lasting benefit for local communities long after the event has concluded.
The Department of Tourism also wishes to extend an appeal to other tourism accommodation providers, resorts, hotels, lodges, guest houses and tourism businesses that may have used but serviceable mattresses, linens, pillows, towels, or other accommodation items available for donation. Any contribution, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will make a meaningful difference for host families preparing to welcome visitors to TORBA.
On behalf of the Department of Tourism and the people of TORBA Province, we extend our sincere appreciation to Mary Jane and the team at Hotel Santo, and Vashti Morin and the team at Breakas Beach Resort, for their kindness, leadership, and support.
Tankyu tumas for helping our communities prepare to showcase the warm hospitality that TORBA and Vanuatu are known for.

The Department of Tourism acknowledges the recent amendment to the Road Traffic Act removing insurance as a mandatory requirement for general police vehicle checks in Vanuatu.
However, the Department wishes to clarify that this amendment does not remove the existing insurance requirements applicable to tourism transport providers operating within the tourism sector.
All tourism-related transport operators โ including tour companies, transfer providers, sightseeing operators, charter transport services and other businesses transporting domestic and international visitors as part of tourism activities โ are still required to maintain valid Public Liability Insurance as part of the minimum standards required to obtain and maintain a Tourism Permit and Business Licence.
This requirement forms part of the Department of Tourismโs tourism standards and compliance framework aimed at ensuring visitor safety, professionalism and destination confidence.
Public Liability Insurance provides protection in the event of accidents, injuries, or incidents involving guests while undertaking tourism-related services. It also reassures visitors that operators are properly licensed, compliant, and committed to professional standards.
As Vanuatu continues rebuilding its tourism sector, maintaining visitor confidence remains a priority. Todayโs travelers are increasingly conscious of safety, compliance, and operator credibility when choosing tourism services.
Tourism operators who maintain appropriate insurance coverage demonstrate professionalism and distinguish themselves from general public transport providers operating under separate regulatory frameworks.
The Department strongly encourages all tourism transport operators to continue complying with tourism permit conditions, including maintaining valid Public Liability Insurance coverage at all times.
The Department will continue working closely with industry stakeholders and relevant authorities to uphold high standards of visitor safety and responsible tourism operations throughout Vanuatu.
