Ongoing drainage construction works is progressing well at Drainage Site 5a - Beach Road opposite Lava Hotel, implemented by Land Transport Authority - Samoa partners: contractor Bluebird Construction Company Ltd and supervising consultant KEW as Stantec’s local counterpart, under funding of the GCF-VCP.

The Joint GCF-VCP multi-year work planning and budgeting workshop of the responsible implementing agencies: Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Land Transport Authority - Samoa, Ministry of Health Samoa and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Samoa; executing agency: Ministry of Finance, Government of Samoa and accredited entity: UNDP in Samoa, Cook Islands, Tokelau & Niue, coordinated and facilitated by the GCF-Project Management Unit. The two day event commenced on 21st November 2023 with the preparatory workshop of the GCF-PMU team to prepare for the joint workshop on 22nd November 2023.

The workshop was well attended by representatives of the UNDP, M*F, responsible implementing agencies and collaborating partners: MWTI, LTA, MoH, MNRE, Civil Society Support Program - Samoa, Samoa Business Hub and Samoa Water Authority.

GCF-VCP

The Government of Samoa’s (GoS) project on Integrated Flood Management to Enhance Climate Resilience of the Vaisigano River Catchment in Samoa, referred to as the Vaisigano Catchment Project (VCP) funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is a 6 year project which started in 2017 and is designed to strengthen the adaptive capacity and reduce exposure to climate risks of vulnerable communities, infrastructure and the built environment in the Vaisigano River Catchment area (VRCA).

The GCF-VCP is executed by the Ministry of Finance (M*F), the Executing Agency (EA)/National Designated Authority (NDA)/Implementing Partner (IP), with the UNDP as the GCF Accredited Entity (AE) with multi- stakeholders and Implementing Agencies (IAs) comprising of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure (MWTI) and the Ministry of Health (MoH), supported by the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development (MWCSD) facilitating all public and community engagements and consultations.
