SO SAMOA was established since 2009 as a non government organization.

Special Olympics is a global movement provide year-round sports training, athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children/adults intellectual disability.

📢 Special Olympics International Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of David Evangelista as our next President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026. David succeeds Mary Davis, who retires at the end of 2025 after 47 years with the movement, including serving as the CEO for the past decade. Evangelista brings over 20 years of experience with Special Olympics, currently as the Regional President and Managing Director of Special Olympics Europe Eurasia where he oversees program operations in 58 countries. “I’m humbled by the confidence of the board and overwhelmed with pride and anticipation,” Evangelista said. “Mary has been a game changer for our movement, and I hope to join with our athletes, volunteers, Board, and staff to build on her track record of powerful growth and impact in the years ahead.” Special Olympics thanks Mary for her steadfast stewardship and looks forward to David championing our movement and empowering our extraordinary athletes for years to come.
