🎺The Royal Australian Navy Band was proud to perform alongside the Royal Samoa Police Band and Royal Tongan Police Band for Samoa’s Independence Day March. 🇼🇸

RAN Band officer in charge, Lieutenant Commander David Coit reflected on the significance of the Navy band’s musical partnerships.

“We are proud to stand alongside our Samoan counterparts—continuing a long-standing connection between our nations and our musical ensembles, while contributing in a uniquely human and authentic way to Australia’s broader regional engagement.”

This year marked a yet another significant moment, as the RAN Band had the privilege to perform for Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC the Governor-General of Australia and Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force.

“It was a privilege to share this significant occasion with our Samoan colleagues and celebrate through the universal language of music.”

The Royal Australian Navy Band would like to extend their thanks to the Royal Samoa Police Band and the people of Samoa for the warm hospitality, fa’afetai lava.

Everyone deserves the support to live fully and with dignity.

The Samoa Spinal Network (SSN) works alongside people with spinal cord injuries and their families, providing practical care and connection close to home.

Last week, Australia handed over equipment and supplies to SSN including laptops, software and internet support, a smartphone, uniforms, awareness materials and medical consumables for home care.

Our Tautua team recently joined SSN during their home visits and witnessed first-hand the value of their work in practice. We saw how central families are in caring for loved ones with spinal cord injuries and how SSN’s support helps strengthen that home care.

Through our with the Government of Samoa, we are proud to support SSN’s dedicated work to help people live with dignity and take part in community life.

Happy International Day of Family Remittances 2026 🌍

Today, we recognise and thank all Samoan workers supporting their families from abroad, including the tens of thousands of Samoans living and working in Australia 🇼🇸

Samoan workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme (PALM) demonstrate remarkable dedication - working overseas while staying deeply connected to their families and communities at home.

Through their hard work, workers like Arona send money home to improve lives, create opportunities for their families, start new businesses and build stronger futures. For many, working overseas is more than just a job — it is a way to invest in their families’ future.

In 2025 alone, Samoan PALM scheme workers sent $41.6 million (WST$73.8 million) through remittances back to Samoa in 2025.

So on this International Day of Family Remittances, we say fa’afetai tele lava to all overseas workers who provide remittances to support and uplift the families and communities of Samoa.

Malo lava to the 109 Government of Samoa officials who graduated from the University of the South Pacific (USP) Samoa Campus on 29 May.

Graduates completed programs in procurement, HR, and public sector management, which will contribute to the strengthening of Samoa’s public service now and into the future.

Australian High Commissioner H.E. Will Robinson congratulated graduates, praising their dedication and Australia’s partnership with Samoa’s public service agencies to build skills for effective and accountable service delivery.

Australia is proud to support this achievement through the PSC led Public Sector Strengthening Project and the M*F led Strengthening Fiscal Management Project funded through the Samoa and Australia Tautai Governance for Economic Growth Program.

The Government of Samoa has officially launched two key national strategies: the National Workforce Plan and the Public Administration Sector Plan — important steps toward building a stronger workforce and more effective public service.

Prime Minister Hon. Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt highlighted the importance of people at the centre of progress:

“We are strengthening the very engine of our nation’s progress — our people.”

Australia is proud to support this achievement through technical and logistical assistance.

These plans will help Samoa address critical workforce challenges — including skills shortages and labour mobility — while improving public sector performance and service delivery for all Samoans.

Australian High Commissioner H.E. Will Robinson said:

“Australia is proud to support Samoa to invest in Samoa’s greatest asset — its people.”

We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Samoa in delivering these important priorities.
