Election day in Kosovo 🇽🇰

The Finnish Embassy team visited polling centres as part of the EU-coordinated and was pleased to observe a smooth voting process.

🇸🇪 Happy National Day to our dear neighbour and close partner, Sweden 🇫🇮

Today, we join in celebrating Sweden’s National Day in Kosovo. Finland and Sweden share - in addition to our common Embassy building - a strong bond based on our shared values: democracy, human rights, equality, and sustainability. We wish our colleagues at the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina and all Swedes a wonderful celebration!

Grattis!

Ambassador Eevamari Laaksonen had the pleasure of meeting representatives of the Kosovo Deaf Association (KAD) and the Finnish Association of the Deaf (FAD) today.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the important work carried out by KAD in advancing the rights, inclusion, and participation of the Deaf community in Kosovo. Particular attention was given to the ongoing cooperation between KAD and FAD, as well as the significance of their joint projects in strengthening accessibility, promoting equal opportunities, and supporting the empowerment of Deaf persons in Kosovo.

Finland has been at the forefront of promoting democracy and equality for over a century. On June 1, 1906, Finland took a historic step by granting women both the right to vote and the right to stand as candidates in parliamentary elections—becoming the first country in Europe and one of the first in the world to do so.

This was a remarkable achievement for its time and an important milestone on the path towards a more equal society. Just a year later, in the 1907 parliamentary elections, 19 women were elected to the Finnish Parliament, making history as the first women in the world to be elected to a national parliament.

More than a century later, equality remains a defining value of Finnish society. Finland continues to work towards ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender, has an equal opportunity to participate and contribute in political, economic, and social life.
