📊 37th National Statistics Month | Region 1 by the Numbers: Facts, Figures and Trends

💡 Stat Mo, Know Mo!

As we continue our knowledge-sharing series for the 𝟑𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s discover how 𝐃𝐄𝐏𝐃𝐞𝐯 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝟏 transforms statistics into valuable information for development planning and policymaking through its key publications. 📚

Did you know that DEPDev RO1 produces important publications that help monitor the region’s economic performance, assess development progress, and guide future priorities?

The Quarterly Regional Economic Situationer (QRES) provides timely updates on economic trends, employment, prices, and other key indicators.

The Regional Development Report (RDR) assesses progress toward regional development goals, identifies gaps and challenges, and provides evidence-based recommendations for improving development outcomes.

Meanwhile, the Regional Development Plan (RDP) serves as the region’s development roadmap, outlining strategies, priorities, and targets for achieving inclusive and sustainable growth.

Together, these publications help transform data into insights and insights into informed decisions that guide programs, investments, and policies for the Ilocos Region.

Statistics become more meaningful when they are used to shape a better future. Through evidence-based planning, we can turn numbers into actions that make a difference in the lives of every Ilocano. 📈

📊 37th National Statistics Month | Region 1 by the Numbers: Facts, Figures and Trends

💡 Stat Mo, Know Mo!

As we continue our knowledge-sharing series for the 𝟑𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s turn our attention to 𝐏𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 and what it tells us about the living conditions of families and individuals in Region 1.

Did you know that the Ilocos Region recorded an estimated poverty incidence of 6.1% among the population and 4.0% among families in 2025?

Among the provinces, Pangasinan registered the highest poverty incidence at 8.6% among the population and 5.6% among families, while Ilocos Norte recorded the lowest at 0.0% in both measures.

Poverty incidence measures the proportion of individuals or families whose income falls below the poverty threshold. Understanding these statistics helps identify communities that need greater support and guide programs on livelihood, employment, education, and access to essential services.

Beyond the percentages are families striving for better opportunities and a more secure future. By translating poverty statistics into responsive policies and targeted interventions, we can help build a more inclusive region where progress reaches every community. 🤝

💡 Did You Know?

For today’s feature in our knowledge-sharing series for the 𝟑𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s explore the 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 and understand how changes in consumer prices affect the everyday lives of Ilocano families. 🛒

Did you know that inflation in the Ilocos Region reached 6.4% in September 2026, up from 4.6% in August 2026 and 2.7% in September 2025?

Food and non-alcoholic beverages were the largest contributors to overall inflation, followed by transport and restaurants and accommodation services.

Inflation measures the rate at which the general prices of goods and services change over time. Rising inflation means that everyday necessities become more expensive, putting additional pressure on household budgets, particularly among low-income families.

Understanding inflation statistics helps policymakers monitor price movements, assess their impact on purchasing power, and develop measures that support household welfare and economic stability.

Because behind every price increase is a family making decisions on how to stretch its budget, reliable statistics are essential in shaping policies that protect livelihoods and improve quality of life.

💡 Did You Know?

For today’s feature in our knowledge-sharing series for the 𝟑𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s explore 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and what agricultural statistics reveal about food security and farmers’ livelihoods in Region 1. 🌾

Did you know that palay production in the Ilocos Region reached 190,862.61 metric tons in the second quarter of 2026, increasing by 10.18% compared with the same period in 2025?

Despite this year-on-year growth, production declined by 44.03% from the first quarter of 2026, highlighting seasonal variations in agricultural output.

Palay production statistics help us understand agricultural performance, monitor food supply, and identify opportunities to improve farm productivity. These figures also guide investments in irrigation systems, agricultural technologies, and post-harvest facilities that support our farmers.

Every grain harvested represents the hard work of our farmers and their vital contribution to the region’s food security. By understanding agricultural statistics, we can support a more productive, resilient, and sustainable farming sector. 🌱

💡 Stat Mo, Know Mo!

As we continue our knowledge-sharing series for the 𝟑𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, let’s take a closer look at the 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 (𝐒𝐃𝐆𝐬) and how Region 1 is progressing toward a more inclusive and sustainable future. 🌏

Did you know that based on the 2024 SDG Pace of Progress assessment, 16 indicators are on track, 15 need acceleration, and 20 are regressing in Region 1?

These figures show that while the region is making progress in some areas, greater efforts are needed to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Monitoring SDG indicators helps identify development gaps, assess the effectiveness of programs, and prioritize actions that address the needs of our communities.

Behind every indicator is a development goal that matters to every Ilocano—from reducing poverty and improving education to protecting the environment and creating better opportunities for all.

By turning statistics into meaningful action, we can work together toward a future where no one is left behind. 🌱

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Regional Office 1 (DEPDev RO1) conducted the Project Development Course for Region 1 Project Development Assistance Center (PDAC) Member Agencies on October 21-22, 2026, at J&V Hotel and Resort, San Fernando City, La Union.

The two-day Course was designed to equip the Region 1 PDAC’s pool of specialists with knowledge and competencies that effectively support concerned government agencies, government-owned and –controlled corporations (GOCCs), state universities and colleges (SUCs), and Local Government Units (LGUs) in preparing quality project proposals responsive to the priority development needs of Region 1.

In her opening message, DEPDev RO1 Director Stephanie F. Christiansen emphasized that effective development planning must be translated into concrete, viable, and responsive programs and projects that generate meaningful and lasting benefits for communities. To achieve this, she underscored the importance of capacity-building initiatives, which are essential for equipping development practitioners with the necessary skills to enhance project preparation, financing, and implementation.

The Course featured key presentations on project development, including the Project Development Cycle, Orientation on the Region 1 PDAC, Plan-Program-Budget Process, Logical Framework Approach, Financing Sources for Development Projects, and Project Concept Note Preparation.

To reinforce learning and encourage practical application, the Course incorporated two simulation exercises in which participants prepared Logical Framework Matrices and Project Concept Notes based on the project ideas proposed by each Provincial LGU (PLGU).

The Course was attended by 19 PDAC representatives from various partner agencies and institutions, including the PLGUs, Region 1 Offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Education, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, and Department of Social Welfare and Development.

This capacity-building activity reaffirmed DEPDev RO1’s commitment to strengthening project development capacities in the region. 𝒂𝒄𝒃
