For a diverse and dynamic nation like Nigeria, democratic principles are not measured solely during election periods but must be upheld throughout every tenure of leadership, across all institutions, and by every citizen.
Delivering a lecture on “Media, Democratic Consolidation and Development” at the 3rd Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi Annual Diamond Lecture on Communication and Development, I highlighted the media’s critical role as a driver of accountability.
While shaping public discourse and advancing national development, the media must remain firmly grounded in facts and figures, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and responsibility.
Instituted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), this memorial lecture transcends the honour of immortalizing my friend, Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi. It also provides a platform to advance the professionalism, patriotism, and accountability that define responsible journalism.
