A commitment to leadership, service, and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Recently, a small contingent of New Jersey State Troopers joined the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for leadership discussions and to share lessons learned from major special events, including the FIFA World Cup, to strengthen future safety and security operations.

As part of the visit, Lieutenant Colonel Doug Lemanowicz, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Modarelli, Major Jim Varick, Captain Jim Doyle, and Trooper II Joe Vescio hiked the Trail of the Fallen on Torne Mountain to the Torne Monument.

The stones at the summit are part of the Trail of the Fallen memorial. Each stone symbolizes remembrance and honors the sacrifice of American service members who gave their lives for our nation.

At the monument, they had the honor of placing a stone in tribute to the fallen heroes of the New Jersey State Police, recognizing their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to duty.

Their legacy continues to inspire all who serve and reminds us that leadership is rooted not only in service, but also in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Honor, Duty, and Fidelity.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the New Jersey State Police partnered with the Division of Violence Intervention and Victim Assistance (VIVA) to bring the Silent Witness Exhibit to the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton.

Featuring life-sized silhouettes provided by the Ocean County Silent Witness Project and Providence House Domestic Violence Services, the exhibit honors the lives lost to domestic violence. Each silhouette displays a commemorative shield that shares a story, and a person who has lost their lives to domestic violence.

The exhibit is free and open to the public Tuesday, October 20, through Friday, October 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We encourage everyone to stop by and join us in honoring the victims and raising awareness of domestic violence.

If you or someone you know has experienced or is experiencing domestic violence, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report and/or call the New Jersey Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-572- SAFE (7233). The New Jersey Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential access to domestic violence information and services, including crisis intervention, referral, and advocacy. This hotline is bilingual and accessible to the deaf and hearing-impaired.

Congratulations to SFC Randall Wetzel, Assistant Station Commander of Troop “D” Galloway Station, on his induction into the Stockton University Hall of Fame!

During his time at Stockton University, Wetzel made history as the university’s first cross-country runner to qualify for the NCAA Championships in 2000 and the first to qualify twice, in 2000 and 2002. He earned multiple NJAC All-Conference and All-Region honors and set a school record in the 10,000-meter run that still stands more than two decades later.

Maintaining physical fitness is a lifelong commitment for our troopers. Wetzel continues to exemplify that commitment, recently earning acceptance into the 131st Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 2027.

Congratulations, SFC Wetzel, on these outstanding achievements and this well-deserved recognition!
