Coastal paths and countryside trails are a wonderful way to explore with your dog. Sticking to marked routes can help protect sensitive habitats, avoid disturbing wildlife, and keep everyone safer around steep banks, livestock, muddy areas, and nesting or feeding birds.

The good news? Your dog doesn't have to miss out on the fun! 🐾

Choosing the right green space for off-lead time means your dog can enjoy a good run, explore at their own pace, and have plenty of freedom in an area that's safe, secure, and unlikely to impact wildlife. 🌳

Thank you for sticking to paths and choosing suitable spaces for off-lead adventures. Every wildlife-aware walk helps protect the places and species that make our coast and countryside so special. 🐕 🐦

Dog of the Week is back!

Thank you to everyone who stops and chats to us on the coast about wildlife-aware dog walking 🐶 This weeks top doggo goes to Badger - a 12-year old sausage 🌭

Ranger Serena had the pleasure of bumping into Badger and her owner on a trip to Chichester Harbour 🌊

Badger loves nothing more than leisurely strolling around looking out for the local wildlife, and Chichester Harbour is PACKED full of fabulous birds in the winter 🦅

Some that you might spot include a special bird called the dunlin - who fly all the way from Scandinavia and Russia to rest and feed on our shores during the winter.

Thank you so much to Badger and all the canines who give these birds space 🫶

With Storm Austen forecast to bring wild and wet weather tomorrow, our usual walks might need a rethink. But that doesn't have to mean a boring day for your dog 🐶 💛

Here are four fun activities Fergus will be enjoying at home:

🐾 An indoor sniffari. Hide a toy or a few treats around a room and let your dog sniff them out.

🧸 Play! Fergus loves to play tug of war. What's your dog's favourite game?

🧻 The forage box challenge. Put some treats inside an empty cardboard box with scrunched-up paper and let your dog rummage around to find the hidden snacks.

🧠 Practising a new trick. Refresh those basics or teach a fun behaviour like a spin, a paw or a hand target. Keep sessions short, positive and rewarding 💫

What an amazing day the Coast and Country Canines team had at PACT's Dog X Conference! 🐶💚

It was fantastic to meet so many passionate dog trainers, behaviourists and professionals, and to spend the day chatting about how wildlife-aware dog walking can benefit dogs as well as wildlife. From building engagement and strengthening recall to improving loose lead walking and focus around distractions, the skills that help protect wildlife also help create safer, more enjoyable walks for dogs and their guardians.

The expert speakers were a real highlight, and we learned so much from the wealth of knowledge and experience shared throughout the day.

A huge thank you to PACT for organising such a brilliant event and bringing together so many people who care about dogs and the great outdoors.

We can't wait to do it all again next year! 🐾

Bonnie wants to show off her fabulous lead walking skills 🐾(there's definitely not some cheese behind the camera)

Walks on the Solent can often involve travelling through protected habitats, just like this saltmarsh here 🌊

Keeping dogs alongside, or popping them on a lead, can help the wildlife thrive by giving them space to feel safe 🐶 Thank you Bonnie for being a local legend.

If you're looking for some inspiration on where to walk across the Solent, why not take a look at our featured walks page? It has a whole range of routes to enjoy - find out more using the link in our bio ⬆

🐾 Dog of the Week: Mutley 🐾

Meet Mutley, an 11-year-old superstar who stopped by to say hello to Ranger Penny at Lymington-Keyhaven 💚

Mutley showed exactly what it means to be a wildlife-aware dog, calmly keeping a respectful distance from any livestock or coastal birds while enjoying his walk. He was also sporting a lovely harness and setting a great example for other four-legged visitors. 🐶✨

Giving wildlife and grazing animals plenty of space helps everyone enjoy the coast safely and stress-free.

Well done, Mutley! 🐾👏

To celebrate the Isle of Wight Autumn Walking Festival, Coast and Country Canines hosted a social dog walk last week around St Helens Duver - a stunning coastal route on the Isle of Wight 🌊

Despite the drizzly start, the walk was a lot of fun with plenty of sniffing and exploring opportunities for the dogs. We were also very lucky to see plenty of coastal birds that return to the Solent each winter, having travelled hundreds or even thousands of miles to spend the colder months along our shores.

Check out the reel to see some of the birds that were spotted 🐦
A big thank you to everyone who joined us, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did 👣 🐾

The sun is shining, the air is crisp and Fergus has a spring in his step 🐾

He loves a walk at the Oysterbeds on Hayling Island, and so do we. Pretty soon, the islands you see on the water behind him will come to life with migratory birds - our friends at Bird Aware Solent have plenty of information all about the different species you might see 🐦

We absolutely love seeing them arrive every autumn. It's one of our favourite things about coastal dog walks at this time of year 💕 Fergus always does his bit to keep them safe by enjoying his walk on the path - a small action that makes a huge difference.

Have you spotted any new arrivals yet?
