November is Military Family Appreciation Month. Coming from a military family, I know how many sacrifices our service members and their families make for our nation. It’s an honor to represent a large military community in the 39th Senate District – I’m grateful to them each and every day.

Today, I joined leaders in California’s agricultural industry to discuss some of the challenges the industry is facing, and how we can find common ground to support economic interests and our environmental goals. Thank you for having me!

I was pleased to join the Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s Women’s Leadership Series to discuss the importance of women’s leadership at every level of government. All politics is local, and women’s voices should always be heard.

America Recycles Day promotes recycling – one of the ways we can take action to limit the amount of trash going to the landfill and protect our environment! In 2022, I authored SB 1013 with Senator Bill Dodd to expand California’s recycling program to include wine and spirits bottles!

Today, we honor Ruby Bridges, who faced intolerance and racism as a child to advance the fight for desegregation and equality. Though it has been over 60 years, the effort to ensure equitable treatment in our schools, our government, and our society continues.

Transgender Awareness Week brings attention to the issues impacting our trans community. As hate rises across the country, so do political attacks on trans rises. We must stand in solidarity with our trans siblings and fight to protect their rights and freedoms. 🏳️‍⚧️

The issue of affordable housing has always been a top priority of mine, stemming from my own experience growing up in poverty in southwestern Virginia. During my years in the State Assembly and Senate, I have worked on a multitude of housing-related bills. I am proud to work together with the California Council for Affordable Housing to address these important issues.

Yesterday, we honored those who served our nation with selflessness and dedication. Coming from a military family and representing a district with a large community of active service members and veterans makes Veterans Day especially meaningful to me and our entire San Diego community.

In honor of Veterans Day, admission to National Park Service Parks is free tomorrow! 144 California State Parks will also offer free admission to veterans, active duty, and military personnel.

Each year, I join the Barona Band of Mission Indians and Chairman Raymond Welch as they present a deserving school in my district with an Education Grant. Today, Principal Jamey Jaramillo welcomed us to De Portola Middle School for this special occasion.
