General information

Fort McMurray is Wood Buffalo’s urban centre nestled in a forest valley where the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers meet. The original settlement was established by the Hudson’s Bay Company, as a trading post in 1870. Today we are a growing community that is better known as the centre of Canada’s oil sands industry.
