Protecting children takes strong systems and partnership. 🇺🇸🇯🇲

The U.S. Embassy facilitated a plenary session where Chargé d’Affaires Scott Renner joined Hague Conference Regional Representative Ignacio Goicoechea, Jamaican government officials, and civil society stakeholders to discuss strengthening Jamaica’s adoption safeguards and protections for children across borders.

This engagement advances U.S.-Jamaica cooperation on international child-welfare standards, including safeguards under the 1993 Hague Intercountry Adoption Convention that promote transparent cross-border adoptions and protect the best interests of the child.

The United States remains committed to working with Jamaica to strengthen child-protection systems and keep every child’s safety and well-being at the center.

Supporting stronger communities takes teamwork, on and off the court. 🏀

CDA Scott Renner got in the game, taking to the court with players during the GK1 Howard McCatty Community Basketball League Finals. He joined the Majesty Gardens community in celebrating local talent and the power of sports to unite and empower young people.

We are proud to support Majesty Gardens and its community through CREATE, the Comm-Unity Resilience and Transformation program. The U.S. government is investing US$2 million across five Jamaican communities. Implemented by the Pan American Development Foundation, the program includes renovating the Majesty Gardens basketball court, training 200 JCF officers, and engaging nearly 500 young people in activities designed to reduce their exposure to crime and violence.

Security is strongest when we work together. 🇺🇸🤝🇯🇲

This week, the U.S. Embassy’s Overseas Criminal Investigations Unit trained more than 100 Jamaican immigration, customs, JCF, and airline personnel at Sangster International Airport to detect potential human trafficking activity and fraudulent U.S. travel documents.

This cooperation equips frontline personnel to protect vulnerable people, disrupt illicit travel, and help make Jamaica and the United States safer.

Strong partnerships with Jamaica’s media community help keep important conversations moving. At our recent Media Mingle, we hosted journalists, editors, and media leaders to reinforce our shared commitment to transparent communication and strong bilateral ties.

We were also proud to introduce our new Public Affairs Officer, Erin Mai Jarrett, and bid a fond farewell to outgoing Public Affairs Officer Mike Lavallee. We look forward to advancing U.S.-Jamaica cooperation with Erin and wish Mike the very best in his next assignment!
