UPDATE - SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
Barricaded Subject 6600 block of Amarillo
On July 14, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers from the Romulus Police Department responded to a reported domestic violence incident in the 6600 block of Amarillo Drive. Upon arrival, officers were confronted by the suspect, a 32‑year‑old Ypsilanti man, who threatened to “shoot and kill” any officer attempting to enter the residence. The suspect subsequently barricaded himself inside the home with an adult female victim.
During initial attempts to communicate, officers heard the victim crying. She indicated she was not okay and was being held against her will. Officers secured the perimeter and continued efforts to establish contact with both the suspect and the victim. All further attempts were unsuccessful. A records check revealed a documented history of domestic violence at the residence and an extensive criminal history for the suspect.
The Western Wayne Special Operations Team was activated and responded to the scene. During the standoff, the suspect communicated additional threats, stating he would shoot officers if they “walked by a window.” As a precautionary measure, adjacent homes were evacuated.
At approximately 6:45 p.m., the suspect released the 37‑year‑old female victim. She fled from the residence and was immediately taken into protective custody by officers.
The incident remains active, and additional updates will be provided as information becomes available
