People's Association Caring Community, United Singapore The Story of People’s Association (PA)

This is our story, but also yours. As Singapore grew and changed, so did the PA.

In 1960, a newly independent Singapore, full of untapped potential, faced a big challenge. People had differing views and beliefs, leading to unrest and uncertainty that threatened our survival. In response, the People’s Association (PA) was formed on 1st July 1960 to foster racial harmony and social cohesion, and build a bridge between the Government and the people. We began simply, gathering families around black and white TV sets in our Community Centres (CCs) and offering classes where people of all backgrounds could mingle. When National Service was introduced, we worked with grassroots leaders to ease worries. As kampungs became HDB estates, we invited neighbours to join the Residents’ Committees (RCs) and carry on the neighbourly spirit. And during crises like SARS and Covid-19, residents, grassroots leaders and volunteers rallied to care for those in need. These moments showed us that Singapore is our home – one where we contribute, stay connected and care for each other. We are excited to keep nurturing this community spirit with you. While the PA’s role has evolved over the decades, our heart remains the same. We are here to create opportunities for you to get involved through events, initiatives, and partnerships across our network of CCs, lifestyle hubs, and grassroots organisations. We want to spark and support your ideas for the community, helping you create change – not just for today, but for generations to come. Picture a Singapore where community participation is part of our daily life – from simple acts of neighbourly care, to volunteering and being part of community initiatives. Together, we can build a future where every contribution adds up to something greater and makes our community even more vibrant. This story is about all of us coming together and sharing our strengths for a caring community and united Singapore. Will you join us in our journey?

A little care goes a long way, especially when the haze persists.

From 23 October, more Singaporeans will be able to collect N95-equivalent masks at our Community Clubs (CCs).

😷 Singaporeans aged 60 and above are now eligible to collect two masks, while those eligible in the first wave can collect another two.

If you have elderly family members or neighbours who may need a hand, do check in on them and help them with their mask collection where needed.

Stay safe, stay kind, and let’s keep looking out for one another. ❤️

The haze has worsened over the past week, and we want everyone to stay safe and take care, especially our seniors, expectant mothers and those with underlying health conditions.

PA's Deputy Chairman, Mr Edwin Tong, has shared a message of care for everyone as we continue to monitor the situation and support our residents through the haze.

Eligible residents can now collect N95-equivalent masks from our Community Clubs (CCs). We've also opened air-conditioned spaces at our CCs and selected RC/RN Centres for residents who need a breather from the haze.

For the latest information on mask collection and available haze shelters, visit PA's website or check the PA Community App.

Let's continue to look out for one another, especially neighbours who may need a helping hand. 💙

Masks are available for eligible Singaporean residents, including persons with medical conditions, pregnant women, children aged 7 to 16, and holders of eligible assistance scheme cards. Please bring along your NRIC during collection. A family member or friend may collect on the eligible person's behalf using their NRIC.

Find your nearest collection point at go.gov.sg/hazemask.

PA will continue to monitor the situation and support our residents. In the meantime, minimise strenuous outdoor activity where possible and look out for one another.
