Our colleague and researcher Irina Odnoletkova recently took part in a round-table discussion at the European high-level conference ‘The Right to be Forgotten as a Human Right’.
This meeting brought together researchers, clinicians, lawyers, policymakers and patient representatives to discuss a key issue: how can we ensure that a cancer diagnosis does not continue to haunt people for the rest of their lives?
During the discussions, it became clear that legislation is only a first step. Implementation, raising awareness and regular updates based on new medical insights are at least as important. The Belgian approach was presented there as a best-practice model.
KCE has been working on the Right to be Forgotten for some time now, and provides scientific support for a fair, evidence-based application of this principle.
