If weather and forest conditions are suitable, firefighters from the Midlands District will ignite the Gisborne – Pyrites No 2 Track planned burn on Tuesday 28 April.

The 42-hectare burn is being undertaken to reduce risk of bushfire to Gisborne and surrounding communities.

The burn will be ignited over one day. FFMVic crews will continue to patrol and monitor in the days following.

🚧There will be traffic management in place on Walsh Road.

Without planned burning and other fuel management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.

🔥You may see or smell smoke.
👀Watch for our crews and follow their directions.
📞If you experience symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, please seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.
ℹ️Detailed information about current air quality throughout Victoria can be found at www.epa.vic.gov.au

Unexpected weather conditions can mean plans change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if communities have already been notified.

When this happens, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and re-schedule the burn for a later date.

23/04/2026

With favourable conditions at the moment, our crews will be taking the opportunity to conduct planned burns over the next few days while the weather is stable. FFMVic is taking advantage of these conditions to reduce the risk of future bushfire.
Private landowners are also expected to make the most of conditions to reduce bushfire risk on their properties. Thousands of private burn-offs have been registered following the end of the Fire Danger Period in most parts of the state (except Glenelg).
Weather patterns can cause smoke to linger overnight and through to early morning. Smoke may be from multiple sources, including private burn-offs, and agricultural and interstate burns.
When air quality is impacted by smoke, everyone – especially those with heart or lung conditions, people with diabetes, people over the age of 65, infants, children and pregnant women – should reduce their time spent outside.
