LET'S COAT BLAINE IN KINDNESS!

The temperatures are dropping, but the competition is HEATING UP!

Our annual Winter Coat Drive kicks off November 1, and once again, Blaine PD is going head-to-head with other metro-area police departments to see who can collect the most coats for those in need!

We're calling on our amazing Blaine community to help us bring home the bragging rights while making sure our neighbors stay warm this winter.

WHAT: Donate winter coats
WHEN: November 1–30
WHERE: Blaine City Hall

Have a coat hanging in your closet that could use a new home? Put it to good use! Every coat counts toward keeping someone warm AND helping Blaine PD climb to the top of the leaderboard!

Let's show the metro what Blaine can do!

K9 Andy Earns Region 12 Case of the Quarter Honors!

In September 2026, Officer Moore and K9 Andy were called in to help locate a suspect who fled from police at high speeds before crashing into an occupied apartment complex and taking off on foot. Witnesses reported the suspect may have been armed with a handgun, making an already dangerous situation even more serious.

That's where K9 Andy went to work!

Andy tracked the suspect through a residential neighborhood, eventually locating them hiding behind a shed. With the possibility of an armed suspect and the risks of a close-quarters confrontation, Officer Moore made the tactical decision to deploy Andy to apprehend the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without injury to officers, and a fi***rm was recovered from the suspect's vehicle.

For their outstanding teamwork, tracking skills and tactical decision-making, Officer Moore and K9 Andy earned the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 12 Case of the Quarter Award!

This award recognizes exceptional police K9 deployments across much of the Twin Cities metro area and a large portion of Minnesota.

Congratulations to Officer Moore and K9 Andy on this well-deserved recognition! Another great example of the important role our four-legged partners play in keeping our community safe.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year!
(That's something we will not see again until 2037! 😮)
That means more kids may be out trick-or-treating later into the evening, and more drivers may be on the roads heading to weekend events.

The Blaine Police Department wants everyone to have a safe Halloween.
If you are driving Saturday night, expect to see plenty of little ghosts, goblins, and other costumed residents in and around Blaine neighborhoods.

Remember to:

🚗 Slow down and stay alert. Children can be difficult to see, especially in dark costumes.

👀 Double-check crosswalks and intersections before moving through

🕛 Give yourself extra time to stop in residential neighborhoods.

📵 Put the phone away. Distracted driving can put pedestrians and other drivers at risk.

🍺 If you are drinking, do not drive. Plan for a sober ride home.

🚨 If you see a suspected impaired driver, contact law enforcement. (911)

Have fun, stay safe, and enjoy Halloween, Blaine!

Supporting victims takes a team. 💜

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the people who work every day to help victims and survivors find safety, support, and resources.

Here at BPD, we’re especially grateful for our Victim Services Specialist Andrea Donaldson, who supports victims through some of their most difficult moments, and for our incredible community partners at Alexandra House, who provide advocacy and critical services to victims and survivors throughout our community.

To Andrea, our officers, advocates, service providers, and community partners who show up for victims every day: thank you for the important work you do.

What a race!
The Blaine Police Cadet Donut Dash 5K brought more than 80 participants to Lakeside Commons Park last Saturday.

Two runners even managed to beat Chief Brian Podany in the inaugural Chase the Chief challenge!

Together, participants and supporters helped raise more than $3,000 for the Blaine Police Cadet Program.
The funds will help provide uniforms and equipment and support cadets as they participate in the Minnesota Law Enforcement Explorer Association state conference in Rochester, where they compete against posts from across Minnesota.
The cadets are also working toward the opportunity to compete at the national level in California.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, cheered from the sidelines, volunteered, or donated to support the cadets.
And a special thank you to everyone who helped make the Blaine Police Cadet Donut Dash 5K happen.

Here are a few highlights from race day!

Two days. Two departments. A whole lot of hands-on learning!

Last week over MEA break, we welcomed an awesome group of 10 high school students for our Junior Citizens Academy, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to serve our community in public safety!

Day 1 was all about police work! Students spent the day at the Blaine Police Department and our training building, getting hands-on experience with police skills and learning what a career in law enforcement can look like.

Day 2 was all about fire and rescue! We headed to SBM Fire Station 3, where students got a firsthand look at the work our firefighters do every day.

A HUGE thank you to the many BPD and SBM Fire staff members who shared their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm to make this experience possible. It takes a lot of people to put together two days of meaningful, hands-on learning, and we couldn't do it without you!

And a special shout-out to Chick-fil-A and Leeann Chin for generously sponsoring lunch for our students and trainers. We appreciate your support!

We hope these two days sparked some curiosity, inspired a few future public safety professionals, and gave our students a whole new appreciation for the people who serve our community.

Who knows? We might have just met some of our future police officers and firefighters!
