Indian Overseas Congress UK Holds Peaceful Solidarity Protest at Parliament Square, London in Support of Students Protesting in New Delhi
The Indian Overseas Congress UK (IOC UK) today organised a peaceful demonstration at Parliament Square, London, expressing solidarity with Leader of Opposition Shri Rahul Gandhi and the students protesting at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
The protest brought together senior leaders, youth representatives, and members of the Indian diaspora from across the United Kingdom, who voiced their concern over the alleged misuse of police power against students exercising their democratic right to peaceful protest.
Addressing the gathering, IOC UK General Secretary Mr. Vikram Duhan urged Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to engage with the students and respond to their concerns by accepting their three key demands:
- Resignation of Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Accountability for all those responsible for the alleged assault on protesting students.
- A public apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the students.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vikram Duhan said:
> "Students are the voice of the nation's future. Their democratic right to peaceful protest must be respected, not suppressed. We urge the Government of India to listen to their concerns, uphold democratic values, and ensure justice."
The protest reaffirmed the support of the Indian National Congress, the wider Opposition, and members of the Indian diaspora for the students and their demands.
Speakers emphasised the importance of protecting democratic institutions, safeguarding the constitutional right to peaceful protest, and ensuring that students' voices are heard with dignity and respect.
