If you’re fighting the horrors of the world right now, you’re probably pretty good at pushing yourself.
Staying up late to publish your friend’s gofundme page, even though you’ve gotta work early tomorrow…
Making sandwiches to share at the protest when you haven’t had a proper meal in days…
Signing up for another Signal chat because you know it’s important, though you’re flailing to keep up with all the ones you’re already on…
You don’t push yourself because you love being overwhelmed, underslept, or hard on yourself.
You push yourself because you care… and because it’s a well-worn pattern in your nervous system, telling you to “go harder” when you perceive threat.
The thing is, we can’t push our way out of anxiety, overload, or scrambling when we’ve spread ourselves too thin.
We can’t break the pattern by doing more of the same thing that’s got our shoulders hunched, breath shallow, spinning our wheels.
The solution is to do something radically different than what our “push” instinct tells us.
The solution is to detour from “push” & drop into play.
