𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 | 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

Along Lacson Street and South Capitol Road stands the Development Bank of the Philippines — a bold concrete landmark that reflects the architectural ambitions of postwar Bacolod. Built in the 1970s, it showcases Brutalist design through its heavy geometric form, exposed concrete, and strong functional presence.

Designed by the Architect Guild of Negros Occidental, with Antonio V. Ascalon as the consulting architect, the building is defined by its vertical brise soleil. These fins are inspired by sugarcane stalks, the dominant agricultural symbol of Negros Occidental, blending modern architecture with local identity.

Beyond its function as a financial institution, the DBP building stands as a piece of living heritage. It connects Bacolod’s sugar-era legacy with its modern development history, showing how architecture can preserve cultural memory even in concrete and modern form.

National Heritage Month

Under the warm sunshine, participants of our FREE Guided Walking Tour explored Lagoon Park and uncovered the rich stories behind the Capitol Lagoon Park and Building—one of the nation’s most admired heritage landmarks. 🌿🏛️☀️

NATIONAL FLAG DAYS | MAY 28 – JUNE 12

The Negros Occidental Tourism Division encourages everyone to proudly display the Philippine National Flag from May 28 to June 12 in observance of National Flag Days, pursuant to Republic Act No. 8491, also known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.

Every May 28, the Philippines honors its national flag—a powerful symbol of history, identity, and resilience. From the declaration of independence to modern-day celebrations, the flag continues to represent the spirit of a nation shaped by culture, struggle, and unity. It stands proudly across islands, communities, and generations, reminding every Filipino that our story is one of courage and hope.

Let us show our patriotism by raising the flag with pride, respect, and honor for our country. Happy Philippine Flag Day—may we always carry our heritage with pride.
