Naari Niketan in Jalandhar is the orphanage which former Prime Minster of India, I.K Gujral’s mother Smt. Pushpa Gujral started for the abandoned, orphaned and disowned girls during India’s partition. A cradle is always kept outside its gates, even till date, where people leave their abandoned infants pulling the bell indoor, and informing the authority of a new little guest. Naari Niketan takes care of their future. It finds a mention in my first book too - Scars of 1947 - where Gujral Saab himself narrated this story to me. Pushpa ji served it till her last breath.
On my recent visit to Jalandhar it was heartening to see little girls being nourished and brought up for a their bright future. Godspeed to every girl and woman.

Met the very talented sitarist and music composer Rishab Rikhiram Sharma. A descendant of esteemed Rikhiram family of luthiers and disciple of the great Pt. Ravi Shankar, it was ecstatic to witness his art and such a mesmerizing performance on stage.
