In an effort to help lawyers and their fiduciary clients, the Mahoning County Probate Court has teamed up with Societal Systems to help you prepare your annual accountings. Societal Accounting works much like major tax preparation software in that your clients banking information can be imported directly into the Societal program. From there, it is analyzed and then exported directly onto the Probate Court standard probate accounting forms. This process saves everyone invaluable amounts of time since you don’t have to retype all of those banking transactions on the court required forms. I would like to extend an invitation to participate in this exciting new program.

With this system, you will be able to compile your annual accountings for your Estates and Guardianships. You and or your staff will be able to upload assets, budgets, and categorize transactions within the program. Additionally, you can link your estate/guardianship bank account(s) directly to the program to allow for automated import of the transactions during your reporting period, saving you time and improving the accuracy of your annual accountings. You will also be able to add filing notes to the completed accountings and submit via E-filing with the click of a button to the Mahoning County Probate Court. In addition, there is no additional cost to you or your client to use this program.

Re: Application process re-opened for Mill Creek Metro Park Commissioners

Judge Rusu announces vacancies on Mill Creek Metro Park Board

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Probate Judge Robert N. Rusu Jr. has announced that he is re-opening the application process to fill two (2) vacancies upcoming on the Mill Creek Metro Park Board of Commissioners. Judge Rusu said that commissioners, Germaine Bennett and Tom Frost have informed him of their decision not to be re-appointed to the Board once their terms expire at the end of 2025.

Therefore, Judge Rusu will be accepting applications from interested Mahoning County residents who wish to be considered for serving as a park commissioner. Judge Rusu will only be accepting completed applications filed in person on or before October 31, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mahoning County Probate Court. No electronically filed applications will be accepted. However, applications for commissioner can be found on line at the Mahoning County Probate Court’s website at https://probate.mahoningcountyoh.gov. A link for the application can be found on the court’s main webpage and also under the “Important Announcements” tab on the courts webpage.

Judge Rusu said that the selection of two new Park commissioners will follow his same process that he created in 2016 to give the public more input in choosing Park commissioners. The selection committee, made up of eight ( 8 ) community minded individuals, will meet to review and screen all of the applicants. Then the committee will refer those candidates they believe are the most qualified to Judge Rusu for his final selection. The judge said that this process is the most open and transparent process of selecting Park commissioners in the State of Ohio that he is aware of while still complying with his statutory duty as defined in R.C. 1545.05 which gives the Judge the sole appointment authority to the Board of Park Commissioners.

IMPORTANT! Please be advised that AT&T is experiencing issues with their equipment. As a result, the telephone system for the Mahoning County Courthouse and Administration offices are experiencing outages. Unfortunately, the Probate Court's telephone system is affected which is resulting in some calls not being connected, or the staff unable to hear the caller, or the calls unexpectedly disconnected. The County IT department is aware of the issue and is working with AT&T to resolve these issues. For any individual that needs to contact the Probate Court during this outage, please email our office at [email protected]. We apologize for the inconvenience; however, the circumstances are beyond our control.

Please be advised that the County is performing upgrades to several County computer platforms. Unfortunately, the Probate Court's website is being affected by those upgrades and is not currently available for use. The County IT department is working diligently to get the site back up as soon as possible.
