It was good to discuss the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan with Mark Pritchard MP. While we both accept that some extra housing is required, we do have concerns regarding the impact on local services due to the thousands of extra homes being concentrated in one part of the borough.
The Local Plan is due to be approved by the Council in November, the transport plan is not due to be published until next year!
Talk about putting the cart before the horse!!
Better saddle up guys, the traffic will be even worse than it is now!

Another drugs raid in Hadley and another two drug dealers taken out of circulation.

Four people have been arrested following warrants at three Telford addresses this morning (Thursday 24 September).

Officers carried out the warrants at addresses in Arleston, Hadley, and St George's following intel that the properties are linked to drug supply.

Two people, a man aged 20 and a woman aged 40, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs in Hadley.

A man aged 24, and a 22-year-old woman, were also arrested at the address in St George's on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs in a linked investigation.

All four people remain in police custody as enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Steve Miller, from Telford’s Proactive CID, said: “Today’s warrants are part of our continued work to disrupt suspected drug dealing and those believed to be involved in it across Telford.

“The activity was carried out following intelligence received by officers and has resulted in four people being arrested. Our enquiries are continuing while they remain in police custody.

“We rely on information from our communities to help us target this type of activity, so please continue to report any concerns or suspicious behaviour to us.”

Last night's EGM of Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council was largely uneventful.

There was a motion from Cllr Callear to paint a mural on the entrance to Hadley Community Centre around the side doors and disabled ramp. It would cost £1200 in total with the parish council paying a third. I asked if that included any coating to protect against vandalism and weathering and it doesn't. Cllr Callear said it would cost thousands to use anti-vandal paint. It doesn't need anti-vandal paint, it just needs a protective coating which should cost a few hundred quid. It was agreed to defer the decision until costs were obtained for the artist to maintain it for the next few years and for a protective coating to compare the costs. There was some challenge about whether it's a good use of taxpayers' money in a location that relatively few people will see that will need some further discussion.

There was another motion from Cllr Callear to dig up the shrub beds that Pat and John Smart had put in on the village green. It will cost £1600 to bring in a digger to dig up the shrubs as it's too big a job to do by hand. I said that there were volunteers who have said they would be willing to tidy the shrub beds up and maintain them for free but Cllr Callear kept saying she had been told by the environmental maintenance team that it was too big a job to do by hand. I asked if the team had been asked whether they could dig it out by hand or tidy it up by hand because surely a digger wouldn't be needed to do some pruning. She said she didn't know but she really wanted to dig up Pat and John's shrub beds and replace them with flowers. Myself and Cllr King voted against the motion, Cllr Brown abstained and the Labour group and Cllr Snell voted in favour.

A decision was made to appoint a temporary Finance Officer as the council currently has no staff who are able to operate the accounting system to issue and pay invoices. It was also agreed to start recruitment of a new Deputy Clerk.

Local Conservative councillors attended a training course delivered by Telford & Wrekin Council on the new planning legislation introduced by the Labour government.

Although Labour have administered entirely removed democratic oversight and decision making from the planning process, the council's planning team has taken steps to ensure that elected representatives at all levels are able to make representations to planning officers directly. It's not a substitute for planning committee decisions but it's the best that can be done within the law.

The training was well planned and informative and will help your local Conservative representatives better serve their communities.

Present were:

Cllr Nigel Dugmore (Muxton)
Cllr Tim Nelson (Newport)
Cllr Rachael Tyrrell (Priorslee)
Cllr Paul Thomas (Priorslee)
Cllr Stuart Parr (Hadley & Leegomery and Wrockwardine)
