The veterinary team at the Amazoonico NEEDS your support ❤️🩹🩺
Here, we work tirelessly toward the rehabilitation, medical care, and conservation of wildlife rescued from illegal trafficking and other forms of mistreatment ⛓️
However, the geographical and logistical challenges of our location deep within the Amazon make it difficult to ensure timely access to certain supplies, medical equipment, and specialized materials that are indispensable for providing adequate and prompt veterinary care 📍🗺️
With the aim of strengthening our capacity to respond to medical emergencies and surgical procedures, we are launching a fundraising campaign to acquire essential equipment 🐾
Donating to this campaign saves the lives of Ecuador’s diverse and important fauna. Every donation matters and gets us a little bit closer to being able to purchase this vital equipment 🔬
Please see the link in our bio for the full campaign 🔗 Thank you for your generosity

Happy World Veterinary Day 🩺🩵
Without the incredible work of our vet team, we would not be able to give rescued animals a second chance at life in the wild, nor adequately care for our permanent residents 🐾
Today we celebrate the passionate people who have chosen to dedicate their lives to animals! Thank you for all that you do 💉❤️🩹🥼

Earth Day at amaZOOnico looks like this 🌿🌎
But so does every other day 🥹 We are proud to show up every day for the wildlife of Ecuador 🐾
On this we want to remind you that you don’t have to go to the Amazon jungle to help our planet. (But you can if you want 🤭)
The most important thing you can do for the planet is believe you have the power to make change, no matter how small from wherever you are 🌱

It’s 🌿 WILD WEDNESDAY 🦋
This week we want to introduce you to our Lowland paca 🦫
🐾 Spotted paca’s (or guantas) are mostly nocturnal, so it’s not common to spot him on our tours. Their dens can be up to 30 feet deep and they mostly eat roots, seeds, and fallen fruits.
⚠️ For centuries, pacas were considered an important meat source to people in Central and South America. Commercial sale of their meat in global markets and habitat destruction are a threat to to their populations.
🤍 Through long-term care and education programs, we work to protect pacas and the forests they depend on 🌱

It’s 🌿 WILD WEDNESDAY 🐆
Today, we are sharing these special images from our volunteer, Anna!
🌱 At amaZOOnico, it’s rare to see these elusive canines because of their nocturnal habits and the large, natural enclosures we provide them with. They prefer to come out in the afternoons, close to meal times… 🥩
If you ever come on a tour, ask your guide if you can stay quiet and give this incredible sighting your best chance 🤭
