🌧️ Canada’s precipitation patterns are changing.

While precipitation can vary from year to year and from region to region, long-term data show an overall increase across .

From 1949 to 2023, annual precipitation increased by about 1.3% per decade. Over this period, spring, summer and autumn also showed increases in average precipitation.

In 2023, however, national average precipitation was 6.8% below the 1961–1990 reference value.

More precipitation can benefit water supplies and some ecosystems, but can also increase flood risks in other areas.
