This was the key message 🇩🇪 CG Daniel Krull delivered at Obafemi Awolo University, Ile-Ife.
CG Daniel haded over scientific research equipment donated by 🇩🇪 Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to the Department of Zoology at OAU. The lab equipment will help to upgrade research and teaching in the field of water quality monitoring.
"… research 🔬 matters today as an indispensable and reliable source for well informed decision-making - on international, national or local level."
The 🇩🇪 CG made reference to the increasing intoxication of fresh water reserves in the country, due to irresponsable illegal mining activities. The contamination of the OAU water reservoir should be a wake-up call.
The severe problem of fresh water intoxication is no longer limited to the villages in the bushes but has reached urban city centers!
He concluded by encouraging researchers to intensify research cooperation, including cross boarder in West-Africa, as many countries in the region share simmilar challenges of illegal mining to the fresh water reserves, the lifeline of humanity.
