𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪?

𝗬𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴-𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴 (𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢 𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢) is prized worldwide for its sweet, floral fragrance. Its essential oil is widely used in luxury perfumes, 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆, and personal-care products. The flowers are typically harvested early in the morning when their aroma is strongest, then processed through steam distillation. Its distinctive scent comes from aromatic compounds such as linalool and germacrene D, making ylang-ylang a celebrated botanical ingredient in the fragrance industry.

The UPLB-BIOTECH and the Philippine Society for Cosmetic Science established the Cosmetic Garden in 2024 as a living repository of plant species with cosmetic applications. The garden aims to support research, training, and innovation in natural cosmetic ingredients while promoting the sustainable use of locally grown plants to advance the Philippine cosmetics industry.
