📚 Supporting the educators who support our youth.

The second annual Adopt-a-Teacher initiative brought OCA’s Office of Human and Civil Rights, staff, and community supporters together at The Opportunity Center to celebrate and support our educators.

Classroom supplies, teacher supply stipends, and community support helped provide resources for the educators who make a difference every day.

A special thank you to OCA, Precinct 4, and everyone who contributed to making this initiative possible. ✏️✨

🤝 Connecting youth and families to opportunities and support.

Community Advocates Aleeza Green and Jennifer Love represented the Youth Diversion and Development Division at the open house for Harris County Resources for Children and Adults Youth Services Center.

The team connected with more than 100 attendees and community stakeholders, sharing information about the Second Chance and Ma*****na Diversion Programs, as well as the resources available to youth and families.

Community outreach like this helps strengthen partnerships and ensure more families know where to turn for support. 🌟

🤝 Service, teamwork, and a little friendly competition.

CUPS 1 staff spent the day giving back at the Houston Food Bank, connecting over lunch, and strengthening team connections at Cidercade.

These moments cultivate relationships, support collaboration, and reinforce the teamwork that helps us serve youth and families every day.

💜 Empowering young women through connection, confidence, and self-care.

The Girls Summer Enrichment Program brought girls together for a day of learning, creativity, and positive engagement.

The girls participated in an interactive session with Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) to explore healthy relationships, self-worth, healthy boundaries, and positive decision-making. The day also included painting, line dancing, and time to relax together, creating meaningful opportunities to build confidence and lasting connections.

Thank you to AVDA, our sponsors, and the dedicated staff who helped make this special day possible. ✨

🌱 Growing more than a garden.

Leadership Academy youth are learning the value of hard work, sustainability, and healthy living through the campus Garden Program in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Using organic gardening practices, our youth have helped build garden beds, install irrigation, plant trees, and grow a variety of vegetables and herbs, including okra, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, thyme, parsley, and chocolate mint.

The herbs and vegetables harvested through the program will also be used in the upcoming Summer Cooking Program, giving our youth the opportunity to prepare simple meals using ingredients they grew themselves.

Hands-on experiences like these cultivate confidence, responsibility, and life skills that extend well beyond the garden. 🌿
