Today, September 29th, marks two years since the serious vehicle accident involving CA-TF8 during our Hurricane Helene deployment. On that day, the members of CA-TF8 experienced an event none of us will ever forget. As we mark this anniversary, I want to acknowledge what they endured, the impact it had on our team and their families, and the extraordinary support shown throughout their recovery and in the months that followed.

Twenty-five years ago today, we lost 2,977 people in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Today we remember them: the office workers, first responders, passengers, and public servants whose lives were taken that morning. We hold their families and loved ones in our thoughts, as the weight of this day never fully lifts for them.

We also honor the men and women of California Task Force 8 and our sister FEMA Urban Search & Rescue teams who deployed to New York in the days that followed, who worked alongside FDNY, NYPD, and thousands of others at Ground Zero, searching through the wreckage with skill, discipline, and unwavering resolve. Their service that September, and in the long recovery that followed, reflects the same commitment that defines this team today: to go toward danger when others cannot, and to bring people home.

Twenty-five years later, we carry their example forward. We train, we prepare, and we stand ready, so that when the call comes, we are worthy of the trust placed in us.

Never forget.
