Police in Hoedspruit, under the Mopani District, are investigating a case of business robbery and malicious damage to property following an incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
It is alleged that at around 02:30, a group of five unknown suspects entered a business premises in The Oaks area, where they confronted a security guard on duty. The suspects reportedly threatened the guard with a firearm before restraining him. Other employees who were present at the premises were also accosted and restrained.
The suspects proceeded to gain access to Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) located within the premises by damaging them and subsequently removed an undisclosed amount of cash from two separate safes belonging to financial service providers.
The suspects fled the scene thereafter, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Witness Mashele, on 082 319 9805, or their nearest police station, or call the number 08600 10111. Information can also be shared via the .

Members of the Ehlanzeni CIT unit have successfully arrested a 49-year-old man for possession and dealing in dagga.
Acting swiftly on the information, the team proceeded to the identified location. Upon arrival, members conducted a search and discovered 15 plastic bags containing dagga, weighing approximately 6.551 kg, with an estimated street value of R50,000.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Bushbuckridge Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday, 07 April 2026.

[UPDATE] A fake bursary donor, masquerading as a Mangaung Metro official, appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistratesâ Court on Thursday, 12 February 2026, for alleged corruption and extortion. The case against Vuyani Gibson Mpasie (27) was postponed to Monday, 16 February 2026, for a bail application.
On 5 February 2026, Serious Corruption Investigation detectives of the in Bloemfontein received information about a man who was introducing himself as an official of Mangaung Metro and promising to facilitate the approval of bursary applications for a fee. This information was operationalised, culminating in the suspectâs arrest on 11 February 2026.
We appeal to anyone who might have fallen victim to the scam to contact Hawks detectives on 082 584 4043. âGovernment bursaries are not for sale,â warned the Free State Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Major General Mokgadi Bokaba.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bushbuckridge is appealing to members of the public for assistance in locating Mr Mojeremane Lanios Malatji (75) and reuniting him with his family.
Mr Malatji, who resides at Dwarsloop, was last seen by his son on 13 January 2026, at his place of residence. It is reported that he left home without informing any family members of his destination or whereabouts.
At the time of his disappearance, Mr Malatji was wearing a brown trouser, a blue work suit, and black boots. His family has conducted extensive searches at places he is known to frequent and attempted to contact him telephonically; however, these efforts have yielded no success, as his cell phone is currently not reachable.
The police urge anyone who may have information that could assist in locating Mr Malatji and reuniting him with his family to contact Lieutenant Colonel Cindy Mkhabela, on 082 469 1298. Alternatively, one can drop an anonymous tip off on the .
