🚑 WORLD TRAUMA DAY | THE GOLDEN HOUR

When time makes the difference.

In trauma care, the clock starts the moment an emergency happens.

From the first call for help, VR Med teams are there — responding, assessing, stabilising and providing critical care while every second counts. The journey doesn’t end when the ambulance reaches the hospital. It continues through a seamless handover to the Busamed team, where hospital clinicians are ready to take over and provide the next level of urgent care.

The Golden Hour reminds us that in trauma, time is not just a number on a clock. Every minute can make a difference to a patient’s outcome.

From the roadside, to the ambulance, to the Emergency Centre and beyond — communication, teamwork and rapid access to the right care matter.

Today, we recognise the dedicated VR Med paramedics, Busamed healthcare teams and every professional who works together to give trauma patients the best possible chance of recovery.

This week we had the pleasure of visiting Pikkieland, and what a wonderful experience it was!

Seeing the excitement on the little ones’ faces as they explored the ambulance and its lights was absolutely priceless. 🥰 They also enjoyed receiving pictures to colour and taking some special photos with us.

Thank you, Pikkieland, for welcoming us and allowing us to spend some time with your little ones. Their smiles made our day! 🚑✨

🚑 A Wonderful Visit to Sentraal Primary School! 🚑

We had the privilege of visiting Sentraal Primary School, where we spent time interacting with the young learners and teaching them all about paramedics, ambulances, and the important work we do.

The learners were given the opportunity to see and learn about some of the equipment we use every day. It was wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity, and enthusiasm!

A big thank you to Sentraal Primary School for inviting us. We were especially impressed by the learners’ beautiful manners, respect, and behaviour. It truly reflects the care, guidance, and values instilled in them by their teachers and the school.

🚨 Fatal Vehicle Collision 🚨

VR Medical responded to a serious vehicle collision involving a vehicle that had collided with a tree in Rose Avenue.

Sadly, upon arrival, one patient was declared deceased at the scene. Mangaung Fire and Rescue was called to assist with the safe extraction of the patient from the wreckage.

The scene was subsequently handed over to SAPS for further investigation.

Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time. 🕊️

We showed them what happens inside an ambulance and discussed various medical scenarios, with some really great questions from the group.

This year’s theme, “Building a Safer Future with Trauma Care,” reminds us that every second matters when a trauma occurs. From the scene of an accident to the care provided by EMS, rapid response can make the difference between life and death.

As we work towards safer roads and stronger emergency response, please look out for EMS vehicles on the road. 🚨

If you see flashing lights or hear a siren, slow down, stay alert, and give EMS a clear path to respond. Your few extra seconds could help us reach someone in their Golden Hour — when urgent trauma care is needed most.
