NATIONAL CONTRACTOR DEVELOPMENT ROADSHOW UNDERWAY IN BLOEMFONTEIN
The National Contractor Development Roadshow is underway at the Showgrounds in Bloemfontein, bringing together emerging contractors and industry stakeholders to explore opportunities for growth, transformation and development within the construction sector.
The initiative, led by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure in partnership with the Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure and Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, aims to equip contractors, particularly those operating within Grades 1–4, with practical knowledge and resources to strengthen their businesses.
The programme features entry-level and intermediate masterclasses covering compliance, funding opportunities, contractual challenges and access to infrastructure projects. The national initiative has already reached more than 2,000 emerging contractors through its various development interventions.
Addressing attendees, Mr Khulile Nzo, CIDB Board Chairperson, said, “It is a privilege to be here in Bloemfontein for the 5th leg construction roadshow.” He commended contractors for persevering despite the challenges of the industry, emphasising that the roadshow seeks to address contractual barriers and promote sustainable business growth.
He further encouraged participants to engage fully in the practical sessions, highlighting the CIDB’s commitment to supporting serious contractors and addressing fraudulent practices that contribute to unfinished construction projects.
Contractors actively participated in the sessions, engaging with the information and guidance provided throughout the programme. The event also featured a certification ceremony recognising graduates of the Free State Contractor Management System (CMS).
The roadshow reinforces the importance of contractor development, compliance and skills transfer in building a capable, sustainable and transformed construction industry.
