Bulbul Down: A tiny, brutal circle of life. 🦅

It’s pretty difficult to get a good sighting of a little sparrow hawk and its even more special to have a sighting of a little Sparrowhawk handling business! This was a crazy chance encounter between a Little Sparrowhawk getting mobbed by a plethora of other birds while overpowering a Dark Capped Bulbul and eventually taking off with his breakfast!

After noticing vultures descending to the ground, guides promptly went to follow up. What our gudies and guests saw was the end of a runaround between 2 different clans of hyena and a whole lot of vultures. We have no idea how long this went on for before everyone arrived on the scene.

What in the reptile?😧

Its not every day we actually get to witness this sort of showdown between rival Rock Monitor Lizzards! A normal encounter with these cold blooded creatures normally results in them hightailing it for the nearest cover for protection. On this occasion their focus was on each other and the prize of breeding access with the females in the area.

Any photographer who has visited MalaMala knows that the southern end of the airstrip is where the magic happens at sunset, providing some the most incredible silhouette photographic opportunities... However on a morning drive with the assistance of the Dark Maned Gijima male, this is what was on offer!
