Athlone Library Athlone Library is a community library where people can come and read, study and build up knowledge, and access the internet.

Athlone District Library is a Community library opened in 1984 that gives the public access to information, literature, and internet access. It is a place where people can come and socialize and connect over books they have read, or form study groups. Throughout the year Athlone Library hosts community events where people can join in and celebrate their community as well as the country. Be on the lookout for future events to be announced on the FB page and check out our cool and informative displays. Only New Memberships are free of charge! All you need is your ID (Birth Certificate and Parent's details for under 18's) and Proof of Address.

📚🎮✨ A Look Into Our School Holidays at Athlone Library! ✨🎮📚

Our school holidays may not have followed a set program, but that certainly didn’t stop the fun! 😄 We embraced the spontaneity and kept the children entertained with a variety of activities throughout the week.

📖 Lots of reading and time spent exploring the library
🖥️ SmartCape games
🎲 Interactive games and activities
🎮 PS4 & Xbox gaming
✂️ Creative and hands-on activities

But one of the biggest highlights of the week was having the wonderful ladies from Regenize visit us for a fun and interactive session with the children on recycling and bullying. 🌱💚

The children had the opportunity to learn through questions and answers, visual examples showing the effects of bullying, fun games, crafts and much more. The session was not only educational but also entertaining, keeping the children engaged while helping them understand important messages about caring for our environment and treating others with kindness and respect. 🌍💗

A huge thank you to Sabrina and her colleague from Regenize for coming out to spend time with our children, and for finding such a fun and creative way to educate, engage and entertain them! Your visit was definitely the highlight of our holiday week. 🌟

❤️ A Meaningful Act of Kindness in Our Community ❤️

As part of a community support initiative, food parcels were distributed to children who regularly use Athlone Library, in memory of the late father of our staff member, Tarren Jacobs, commemorating the anniversary of his passing.

This thoughtful initiative honoured his memory through an act of goodwill that directly benefited local families. The distribution not only provided practical support to children in need, but also strengthened the library’s role as a caring, responsive and supportive community institution.

The gesture was warmly received and contributed positively to community well-being and engagement, reminding us of the meaningful difference that kindness and generosity can make in the lives of others. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to Tarren Jacobs and her family for choosing to honour their loved one’s memory in such a meaningful way and for extending their kindness and support to the children and families in our community.

🌷 May his memory continue to inspire kindness, compassion and generosity.

We are incredibly proud and excited to share that Athlone Library’s Digital Reading Den has been awarded GOLD in the category Most Innovative Developmental Programme at the CSH Catalyst Awards 2026! 🥇📚💻

Representing Athlone Library at the awards ceremony were Librarians Armien and Leila, together with Principal Librarian Ashley Lewis.

This award is a wonderful recognition of the creativity, dedication and hard work that goes into developing programmes that make a meaningful difference in the lives of our community members. The Digital Reading Den is about more than technology and reading — it is about creating opportunities, building confidence, developing skills and opening doors to new possibilities. 🌱📖✨

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our patrons and the Athlone community for your continued support, participation and encouragement. Your enthusiasm inspires us to keep creating programs that respond to the needs of our community.
