DOUBLE SILVER AT INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR!
Congratulations to our three young scientists who earned silver medals for both their research projects at the 2026 Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF) in Johannesburg!
The ISF brings together selected young scientists from across South Africa and abroad to showcase their research and compete for prestigious awards.
🥈 Alexandra de Roo (Grade 9) investigated how plant diversity influences arthropod biodiversity in suburban environments. Her research found that planted gardens supported an average of 14.8 arthropod species, compared with just 6.6 in open green spaces, highlighting the importance of biodiversity-friendly planting.
🥈 Uthmaan Razak and Huda Nacerodien (Grade 11) investigated how waste tyres could be converted into alternative fuel to reduce pollution. Using a process called pyrolysis, they successfully produced a combustible liquid fuel with several properties comparable to conventional fuels.
Both projects qualified for the ISF after winning gold medals at the Cape Town Regional Eskom Expo.
We are incredibly proud of these students and thank our Science staff for their continued commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom and encouraging scientific enquiry.
