Tiny? Yes. Fearless? Absolutely.
This little diva has started physiotherapy as a conservative treatment approach for IVDD. Luna May has never let her size influence her confidence, and after bravely (and perhaps a little enthusiastically) standing her ground against a dog many times her size, she's now focusing on her recovery journey.
As her mom's beloved baby girl, Luna fully expects VIP treatment wherever she goes, and we're more than happy to oblige. Despite her current challenges, her fiery spirit, sass, and determination remain completely intact!
We're cheering you on every step of the way, Luna May!

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! 🐾💙
Whether your child barks, meows, chirps, squeaks, neighs, or hisses, today we celebrate you.
And no, we’re not buying the tough-guy act. We've all seen the videos titled "My dad with the cat he didn't want" and somehow that same cat is now sleeping on your pillow, eating premium snacks, and being referred to as "Daddy's little princess."
We know the truth. One pair of big brown eyes, one heart-shaped nose, or one tiny paw reaching out for a cuddle, and suddenly the self-proclaimed "man of the house" is speaking in a baby voice and taking 437 photos of his pet every week.
To the cat dads being woken at 5am because Her Royal Highness has decided breakfast is overdue. To the dog dads who claim they don't spoil their pets while secretly sharing half the couch, all the blankets, and most of their personal space. To the bird dads, rabbit dads, reptile dads, horse dads, and every other pet dad in between: we see you.
And trust us, we know. We see you in our sessions. We see the proud smiles, the endless photos, the worried questions, the treats "just because," and the way your pets look at you like you're the greatest thing since tennis balls and tuna.
Thank you for loving your furry, feathered, scaled, and whiskered kids so fiercely.
Happy Father's Day to all pet dads (including dads who never wanted a pet... and somehow ended up completely obsessed with one. ❤️)
Meet Ralph: the boy with the wagging tail and the unstoppable spirit!
Ralph is currently coming to us for physiotherapy as he works towards learning how to walk and move with purpose again after suffering near-complete paralysis due to polyneuropathy. It’s a long road, but if there’s one thing we know about Ralph, it’s that determination is one of his strongest personality traits.
His greatest motivation? Treats and food. Although, much like the latest fashion trends, his favourite snack changes regularly, so keeping up can be a challenge!
Many of the team at Onderstepoort already know Ralph well - possibly because he likes to serenade us with the songs of his people throughout his sessions. He has always been an independent soul (and a vocal boy), despite being thoroughly managed at home by his Jack Russell "big brother." He’s also something of a collector, having hidden a giant bone so successfully that it still hasn't been found. At this point, we're not entirely convinced Ralph remembers where he put it either.
Ralph has always been the kind of dog who believes every hand hanging at someone's side is an invitation for pats. If you weren't paying attention, he'd gently (or not so gently) nudge his head into your hand until you got the message.
What inspires us most is that despite everything he has been through, that tail has never stopped wagging. His determination shines through every session, and we're already seeing encouraging progress.
Keep an eye on our page for updates on Ralph's rehabilitation journey, and help us cheer him on as he takes on this challenge one session at a time. We've got a feeling this stubbornly determined boy still has plenty of milestones ahead of him. 💪

Not every dog that suddenly becomes weak has injured a muscle or a joint. Sometimes the problem lies within the nerves themselves.
Acute Polyradiculoneuritis (APN) is a neurological condition that affects the communication between a dog's brain and muscles, often causing weakness that starts in the hind legs and progresses forwards. While seeing your dog struggle to stand or walk can be frightening, many dogs make excellent recoveries with time, supportive care, and physiotherapy.
In this post, we're taking a closer look at what APN is, what causes it, the signs to watch for, and how rehabilitation can help affected dogs get back on their paws.
Have you ever heard of APN before? Let us know in the comments! 🐾💙 Dealing with APN in your fur baby right now? Get in touch, we can help!

Meet Jasper! 🐾
This chatty little gentleman is on a mission to get back on his paws after battling IVDD. With the help of physiotherapy, a shiny new set of wheels, and a mom he's absolutely inseparable from, he's making great strides every day.
Jasper has plenty to say about his treatment plan, and he's wonderfully determined when it comes to doing things his way. Luckily, that same determination is helping him tackle his rehabilitation like a champion.
Keep rolling, Jasper - we're all rooting for you!

Hip dysplasia is one of the most common orthopedic conditions affecting our pets, particularly dogs - but cats can suffer from it too. 🐾
Because pets often adapt to pain gradually, the signs can be easy to overlook until significant arthritis has developed. Learning what to watch for can help your pet receive treatment earlier and stay active and comfortable for longer.
If your fur-baby is suffering from hip dysplasia, and you need help, don't hesitate to reach out to us about our weight management or pain relief physio programs.
