We have come to the end of the CMS Industry Indaba with reflections on the key outcomes and way forward by Dr Musa Gumede, followed by the official closing by CMS Executive: Regulation, Mr Mfana Maswanganyi.

A diverse panel of healthcare leaders and experts took to the stage for Panel 2 to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping value-based contracting and the importance of collaboration and effective regulation in driving better healthcare outcomes for beneficiaries.

The panel is moderated by Dr Darshini Govindasamy (SAMRC/Wits Centre for Health Economics), featuring insights from Dr Stan Moloabi (GEMS), Prof Roseanne Harris (Discovery Health), Prof Wezile Chita (HPCSA), Prof Lungiswa Nkonki (Stellenbosch University), Mr Mark Hyman (MediCheck) and Ms Hannelie Cornelius (CMS).

Medical Doctor and Healthcare Ethics Specialist, Dr Brenda Kubheka, shared a presentation on “Ethics, Governance, and Accountability in Contracting” and the session sparked meaningful engagement from delegates, with robust discussions and questions.

The first panel of the day brought together leading voices across healthcare to discuss Value-Based Care Across the Continuum, focusing on smarter purchasing, quality care and innovation to strengthen South Africa’s health system.

The panel is moderated by Dr Tebogo Phaleng (Head of Strategic Health Governance & Clinical Consulting, Insight), and features Ms Neo Khauoe (Chairperson, Board of Healthcare Funders), Mr Thoneshan Naidoo (CEO, Health Funders Association), Dr Vuyo Gqola (Chief Operations Officer, GEMS), Dr Siphiwe Mndaweni (CEO, Office of Health Standards Compliance), and Dr Ntuthuko Bhengu ( CEO, Alchemy Health Technologies).

Dr Anban Pillay, Deputy Director-General: Health Regulation & Compliance (NDoH), unpacks how strategic purchasing can shift healthcare from “paying for input/procedure to pay for output,” driving fair pricing and more sustainable healthcare in South Africa.

Day 2 of the CMS Industry Indaba 2026 is officially underway, with Programme Director Dr Samantha Iyaloo leading today’s engagements under the theme: “Value-Based Care, Contracting and Pricing in the South African Medical Schemes Environment.”
