President Cyril Ramaphosa today, 16 June 2026, led the National Youth Day Commemoration at FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg. Ramaphosa delivered a keynote address at the national event today, under the 2026 theme: “RESET @50 – Our National Commitment to the Future for Freedom Lives in Every Generation.” The BANKSETA was in attendance to speak to the youth about the opportunities offered by the SETA.
This year's National Youth Day marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Youth Uprising, one of the defining moments in South Africa's liberation struggle and democratic journey. The commemoration honoured the courage, resilience and sacrifices of the young people who stood up against injustice and helped shape the future of a free and democratic South Africa.
The commemoration formed part of a year-long national programme launched by the Minister in The Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, in May 2026 to reflect on the legacy of the youth of 1976 and advance a national dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing young people today.
The event brought together youth formations, students, veterans of the liberation struggle, government leaders, civil society organisations, business representatives, development partners and communities from across the country.

08 June 2026:
BANKSETA, together with other SETAs, joined the Minister of Higher Education Buti Manamela's voter education campaign in Brits. The gathering has a dual purpose:
• Introducing SETA programs — showcasing the initiatives and services that SETAs provide.
• Highlighting stakeholder benefits — ensuring that institutions and individuals understand the value they can gain from these programs.
Key stakeholders present included TVET colleges and students, emphasising the campaign’s focus on bridging education, skills development, and future career opportunities.
This kind of engagement not only strengthens awareness of the SETAs role in the national skills framework, but also builds trust with communities by showing tangible pathways for learners and institutions.
