Power Outage Caused by Vandalism

The municipality advises residents that vandalism has damaged a 22 kV electricity line and its pole structure, resulting in a power outage affecting the supply from Eskom. The damage has been reported, and the relevant teams are working to assess the extent of the fault and coordinate restoration.

Damage to medium-voltage infrastructure can disrupt electricity supply to affected areas and create serious safety risks, including electric shock, fire, and injury from unstable or fallen structures. Repairs may take longer where conductors, insulators, poles, or other components require replacement. Repeated vandalism also places an avoidable financial burden on the municipality and diverts resources from essential services.

Thank you for your patience and understanding 🙏🏾

POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

The Electro-Technical Services Department has restored electricity to more than 95% of households in De Aar East and Nonzwakazi.

Supply to the remaining households is still interrupted because the individual service cables supplying these properties were vandalised during the unplanned outage. The damage must be assessed and the affected cables repaired or replaced before supply can be safely restored. The team will complete the remaining work progressively.

Vandalism of electrical infrastructure directly damages the network, prolongs outages and delays restoration for affected households. The community is urged to protect municipal infrastructure and report any suspicious activity or vandalism to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

We thank residents for their patience and understanding as the team continues the repairs.

Thank you.

Emthanjeni LM Power Outage Update

We wish to inform residents that the Transformer for Substation B is on site.

The technical teams from the service provider and municipality will be removing vandalised transformer and re-installing the new one.

Further updates, including information on restoration, will be communicated.

Affected community members are requested to switch off all appliances while the power is off to help reduce the risk of inrush current when supply is restored.

All households which experienced plundering and cutting of electrical power supply cables are encouraged to report such incidents to their respective ward councillors and municipal technical officials.

The reported incidents of households will be attended accordingly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
