Revolutionary Student Movement mourns the passing of the former SASCO DSG Cde Bigo Mathe

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) has learnt with sadness of the untimely passing of its former Deputy Secretary General (DSG), Comrade Bigo Mathe, the organization sends its deepest condolences to his friends and family.

The organization is yet to meet the family to get more on logistics for both the Memorial Service and Funeral arrangements.

Comrade Bigo is part of the generation of student activists that led during one of the most difficult periods in the history of higher education. SASCO salutes his commitment to seeing through the process of mergers successfully. As the current generation we shall take the baton where he left off.

Comrade Mathe dedicated his life to the service of his people and the Mass Democratic Movement as he was elected Deputy Secretary General of SASCO and later served as the National Organizer of the ANCYL under the 25th NEC.

We wish to send our deepest condolences to his Friends, Family and Comrades. Hamba kahle Mkhonto!

SASCO Smiso nkwanyana branch wish to congratulate matric class of 2022 and wish them good luck on the new journey they are embarking on.

Uploading of outstanding documents.

We wish to remind all Unisa prospective students that just matriculated to upload their matric statements, SASCO Comrades will be available to assist.

Campus operations

UNISA Smiso nkwanyana campus it is open for anyone who wishes to access it but we advise you to come early to avoid long queues or be turned away because they've reached the number of people who can be serviced per day.

We demand that the number of staff must be increased to accommodate more students per day hence we currently only have one campus at Durban.

Intellimali contract

We have been informed that intellimali contract will end in few weeks and soon we will be notified on how we going to receive our books allowance & monthly allowance, the in house sourcing will be introduced.

Our stand as a branch we demand that our allowances should be loaded into our bank accounts or the new system should allow us to withdraw from any ATMs and retail stores without limit. Also the R5,50 that was charged on every transaction we demand to me reduced ,it is too much and unfair to deduct such money from the peanuts we are getting.

AOD forms and NSFAS appeals

All self paying students and NSFAS beneficiaries the AOD 2022 forms are available to those who wish to apply for it, this is basically requesting the institution to finalize your registration while you are owing the institution. Those who need this form should download it on UNISA website or collect it on campus. While we are waiting for NSFAS appeals we encourage all those who knows they are waiting for NSFAS appeals to be open to apply for AOD to have their registration finalized.

Extension of registration

SASCO demand the institution to extend the registration period because students that recently matriculated, it can't be fair and practical that they could be given three days to wait for offers and register within these days.

Pre requisite modules

The meeting we recently had with the Dean of students and NSRC secretary they alluded that the the issue of pre requisite modules will be sorted within 3 days but the issue remains there, we demand that students should be given that opportunity to register those modules. Especially those who are doing their last modules.

Invigilator apps / Red flag

Dean of students alluded that there were 56 000 flagged scripts but some were unfairly flagged, however the investigation have reduced that number to 12 000 and the investigation continues.

HC students

The university indicated that they won't be able to accommodate all students that were doing HC because of the enrollment plan by the department. We demand the university to give offers to those students because the university should make sure that the number of HC students they enrol won't be too much when the following year they want to pursue their respective diplomas and degrees. If they refuse to listen to us we will force them to listen to us.

Decentralization of power

We demand the decentralization of power because Durban is considered as the main campus or the Hub from KZN and the second biggest in terms of large number of registered students, this create more issues because students flood the campus while some services are not offered but are offered in Pretoria.
