EFF STUDENTS COMMAND STATEMENT ON THE ONGOING DECEPTION OF THE SUPPOSED NSFAS PROGRESS
2 February 2017
The EFF Students Command notes the ongoing deception posed by both the white owned media and the limping Department of Higher Education. The ongoing deception is one that is rejected by the EFF Students Command and will be highly contested, inevitably so by the entire student body.
Blade braces our screens and newspapers on a daily basis selling a lie that can't even be marketed on the ground because it is disgracefully exposed. On a daily basis we hear of the supposed progress of the NSFAS system; how students are allowed to register just by merely fitting the criteria; and the biggest lie of them all, "we have put in more money than the previous year." If this is the case, how is it that the process of accessing these institutions is getting harder and harder to crack for the poor and easier to access for the rich? Universities are intentionally delaying the communication between them and poor students with the hope that the burden of financial strain will not be theirs nor the responsibility of running after NSFAS at the end of the year be on their shoulders.
The EFF Students Command Campaign is bombarded by thousands of hopeless Black students on a daily basis with not only the overwhelming request of being helped to register but also homelessness being an immense crisis. While the EFF Students Command successfully assists majority of the desperate Black students, it is the responsibility of Blade and the ANC to see to it that these poor students have accommodation and food whilst the NSFAS Vacation Squad is taking their time to approve applications.
It must be clear that the EFF Students Command rejects the humiliation NSFAS takes Black poor students through. We reject the entire structure of bidding out loans and bursaries in the first place. It is fortunately unfortunate that this process is fueling the Movement with petrol on dying fires.
The government and tertiary institutions must go ahead and garner resources to counter the wave that is brimming. We are coming. Do not be dismayed by the calm before the storm. The hurricane will continue to erupt until Free and Decolonised Education is the song that defines our nation.
