While we didn't make the final shortlist for the 2026 Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage (JIAPICH), we are honoured to have been included on the reserve list among such inspiring initiatives from around the world.
The recognition is a reminder that the work of preserving, celebrating, and creating opportunities through cultural heritage matters and we are grateful that Africa!Ignite's efforts were considered.
Congratulations to the 2026 JIAPICH Finalists:
1. Saranga Puppet Group (Sri Lanka)
2. Embodying Reconciliation (Colombia)
3. Sunbula (Palestine)
We wish them every success as they continue their important work in safeguarding and promoting intangible cultural heritage. We look forward to following their journeys and celebrating the impact they make in their communities and beyond.

✨ Looking for a meaningful way to promote your organisation, campaign, event or cause?
Africa!Ignite creates 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦-𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 that do more than raise awareness — they create opportunities and support livelihoods in rural communities across South Africa.
For more than 15 years, we have been producing handcrafted bracelets for clients around the world. While bracelets are relatively simple to make, they remain popular accessories, with an increasing number of men embracing them as part of their everyday style. Throughout this time, Africa!Ignite has maintained high quality standards, often producing extra items to account for quality control and ensure that every order meets client expectations.
Rather than allowing these valuable resources to go to waste, we are now repurposing thousands of bracelets accumulated over the years. We identified this as a unique opportunity to teach participants in our Inanda Social Employment Fund programme about supply chains, production processes and quality assurance, while they develop new bracelet-making skills.
The initiative also provides a safe and supportive environment for participants to explore their creativity and experiment with new ideas and concepts. By selling these bracelets, we generate additional income that can be reinvested into our partner communities, creating a cycle of learning, opportunity and impact.
So, if you or your company are planning a campaign, conference, fundraising initiative, awareness drive, or special event, why not choose a product with purpose? Get in touch using the details below to discuss your 𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 and help us turn creativity into livelihoods, and resources into possibilities. 💛

WowBiz in Khula Village, under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Social Employment Fund 4 Programme, proudly hosted a successful Tourism Sustainability and Development Event, welcoming approximately 300 community members to experience the richness of our culture, heritage, and innovation.
The event, held at Simunye Tourism Information Centre, celebrated cultural diversity through vibrant performances, youth-led entertainment, and authentic local cuisine, showcasing the power of community tourism as a catalyst for social and economic development.
The primary objective was to raise awareness about tourism opportunities in the greater Dukuduku area, highlight the benefits of tourism, and encourage local entrepreneurship within the tourism sector.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our local leadership, sponsors, community members, learners, IDC participants, and all attendees whose support contributed to the success of this event and the promotion of inclusive tourism development.
Together, we are building a future where local voices lead, communities thrive, and tourism creates lasting opportunities for all.

Africa!Ignite and Green Corridors recently came together for a strategic workshop focused on strengthening our partnership and streamlining processes within the Industrial Development Corporation Social Employment Fund.
The session brought together members of the Africa!Ignite team — including Antoinette, Tina, Sifiso, Bayanda, Lethu and Dr Niki Glen — alongside Green Corridors' site lead, Nick Shaw, and champions representing the various project sites.
Hosted at the beautiful Isithumba Adventures, near Cato Ridge, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to reflect, plan and identify ways to work more effectively together in support of the communities we serve. The venue itself is an inspiring example of community tourism in action, managed by one of the project champions.
It was a positive and constructive engagement, reinforcing the importance of collaboration, shared learning and a collective commitment to creating meaningful impact. 💛

✨ Behind the scenes... Our new little office is ready and waiting. While many of our team members work remotely, this space remains our base — a place for collaboration, planning, catch-ups, and the occasional coffee-fuelled brainstorming session. ☕
Small in size, but big in purpose. We can't wait to fill it with the energy of our amazing team as we continue the work we love.

Meaningful change certainly is possible! 🔥
Learning Brief: Building Safe, Resilient and Flourishing Communities
South Africa’s safety challenges are deeply connected to unemployment, inequality, social exclusion and gender-based violence. Yet across the country, community-based organisations are demonstrating that meaningful change is possible when local knowledge, partnerships and opportunity come together.
Our latest learning brief, Building Safe, Resilient and Flourishing Communities, shares insights from the Social Employment Fund (SEF) and the organisations working on the frontlines of community safety. From supporting survivors of GBVF and protecting children, to creating employment pathways and strengthening social cohesion, these stories show the power of community-led action.
The brief highlights lessons from organisations including StellCARE, Hlanganisa Community Fund for Social and Gender Justice, Africa!Ignite, HIVSA and the Small Projects Foundation, while exploring how collaboration between government, civil society and communities can create lasting impact.
A key takeaway? Investing in people is investing in safer communities. When individuals are equipped with skills, opportunities and support, they become powerful agents of change within their own communities.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is a deeply rooted social failure that thrives on power imbalances, cultural norms, and systemic inequities. Conventional responses to GBV focus on external aid, professional intervention, and institutional frameworks. While these are important, the immediate need to help identify incidences of GBV and to support victims require critical attention in many rural communities across South Africa.
Africa!Ignite and their partners selected GBV as one of six themes to pursue in the Wild Coast under the Social Employment Fund (SEF) umbrella. Opting to include this in the "work for the common good", the main principle that underpins SEF, had a massive ripple effect in the 14 villages within the project scope.

While Africa Ignite and their partners were deep in the throes of planning, analyzing, teaching, measuring, and reporting - all the critical activities of effective change agents - we almost missed the simple but profound moments of joy unfolding across the Wild Coast.
In 2023, AfricalIgnite was appointed a Strategic Implementation Partner (SIP) of the Social Employment Fund (SEF), an initiative of The Presidency designed to provide temporary employment to some of South Africa's most vulnerable people. But beyond earning an income and developing future-fit skills, an unexpected and transformative by-product of this initiative emerged: FUN
